All questions about specific tasks and also general discussion. We will be adding some lists for books that could fit some of the harder to find tasks and updating it when people make suggestions. Feel free to give suggestions on books you think would fit someone’s needs for a task.

Daisy | 686 comments Love the new tasklist! I was just wondering, I'm not religious, what do I do for Habemus Papam? Can I just choose any religion and read a book on it?

message 3: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
Yes, you don't have to read a book about your religion, it is any religion you choose.

Daisy | 686 comments Ok, thanks :)

message 5: by Heather (last edited Mar 25, 2013 09:03PM) (new)

Heather (jjgrl55) For 25.7 First and Last, should we consider posthumous works to be their last work? For instance, I want to use Charlotte Bronte. Technically the last work published in her lifetime was Villette, but her last posthumous work was The Professor, which she technically wrote even before Jane Eyre, her first published work! I feel like the spirit of the challenge is to explore how an author grows in their career, so Villette seems like the right choice, since The Professor is sort of her first work, even though it was rejected for publishing initially......and now I am confusing myself. Help!

message 6: by Megan (new)

Megan Is 15.5 If Huck Could Do It a 2 book task? Just asking bc I don't think there has ever been a 15 point two book task. Plus books from the 1800s can often be more difficult to get through, although not always...

Jana at ThatArtsyReaderGirl.com (miss_jana) | 125 comments In the same vein as Megan's question, is 15.8 also a two book task? Again, 15-point tasks are usually not two books.

message 8: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 279 comments For Cinco de Mayo I wanted to do The Voyage of the Dawn Treaderby C.S. Lewis on goodreads it says that it is book #3 but in my box set it is #5. Just want to double check to make sure this is okay since he wrote them out of order.

I to think that task was meant to show how the author progressed. If you don't want to read Villette or if you can't find something else, I would say it would be okay to include The Professor in that task.

I didn't notice this. Lori created the challenge, so let me discuss it with her. Right now, lets leave it at a 2 book task and we will let you know if it changes.

If it is book 5 in your boxed set, I would say go for it. I have noticed numbers being off in Goodreads too.

The Light Between Oceans

Daisy | 686 comments I'm a bit ashamed to admit it, but I don't have access to a library (I ended my membership because the ones in my home town have a VERY limited selection), is there any other way to make up for 5.1? Can I maybe go to a friend's house and randomly pick a book of their shelves?

message 18: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rmtb) | 62 comments For the Spring Cleaning task, the book on my to-read longest is the Prime of Miss Jean Brodie - in some editions it is under 150 pages, but in other's it's more, is it ok for me to use it?

message 19: by Ana (new)

Ana | 65 comments For the Batter Up task, the only book I could find that interested me was Blockade Billy by Stephen King. It's only 132 pages though. Would it be ok? Most of the other books on my list are well over 300 pages.

message 20: by Allison (new)

Allison | 179 comments For Task 5.3 would the Goodreads list: Chick Lit for the Beach count as a summer reading list? One of the tags on it is summer...

message 21: by Allison (new)

Allison | 179 comments Oh, one more question! For Task 25.6 can the fictional hero be a detective in a mystery? Or does it need to be a hero in the more traditional sense?

I would say that works. Detectives and other law enforcement and fire fighters and emts etc I have always considered to be heros.

Either that or ask a friend to "set you up" on a blind date with a book.

message 27: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Lauren (ashleyllauren) Just to clarify about the last task with the rolling of the dice... are we supposed to read one book or two? I initially thought it was just one - you know, with the location and the theme - but since 25 points are usually two books I wasn't sure if the first dice was just one book in that location and the second dice was a theme for the second book... I hope that makes sense :-)

I too was wondering this. I thought we were supposed to read one book that had the location and the theme from your roll but some people have picked two.

I am going to defer to Lori, but I took it to be 2 books. First was the the place. The second book was the type.
Lori?

Rebecca (rmtb) | 62 comments For task 15.4 "Batter Up!" is it ok for me to use Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen? I know that running doesn't have an official season, but marathons are held in the Spring generally, and it's also something I associate with spring, when the weather's nice enough to get out and people want to lose some of their winter weight. Does it fit the challenge okay?

message 32: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 250 comments For 10-3. (Featuring a working-class character OR a book about labor history - want to read A Serpent's Tooth by Craig Johnson) would a small-town sheriff count as working class? What is considered a working class job if that doesn't fit?

message 33: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 250 comments for 25-1. does Starlight & night count? or only if it's light/night?
I'm reading Days of Blood & Starlight and I want to read The Night Circus and had not planned to read The Light Fantastic until much later in the year.

message 34: by Megan (new)

Megan For 15.1 Hope Springs Eternal, could I read The Old Man and the Sea? It's only 128 pages. I read this book in high school and absolutely HATED it. I actually liked most of the books read in school but not this one. In recent years I feel I should reread it especially after reading The Paris Wife and Hemingway's Girl.

message 35: by Merc (new)

Merc (oswinssouffle) For 25-4, does the cover of When Will There Be Good News? count as a summer scene? I'm not sure if I just see it as a summery thing because I live in Seattle and translate sun and no rain into summer.

message 36: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 250 comments for 15-6 can I use one of the A Song of Ice & Fire books by George R. R. Martin? There is a lot of religion talk and religious people in all the books.

I would call that working class. My brother's a deputy and they aren't as wealthy as someone who puts their life on the line every day should be. :)

I will allow it as long you have other books that are much longer in your challenge. Also, I didn't care for it in high school either. I am interested to see if you enjoy it this time around.

Ashley Lauren (ashleyllauren) Would it be possible for Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption to count for the "water" part of the last task? It doesn't "entirely" take place on water but there's a significant part of the story that is definitely on water!

Mickslibrarian Is the Divine Comedy ok for Habemus Papem?

message 50: by Mickslibrarian (new)

Mickslibrarian also for 25.6 does the book have to be nonfiction or can it be historical fiction about a real hero?
