Sara | 8 comments I have virtually nothing to go on here. The main character was given, or found an enchanted sword. If I remember correctly, the sword would not let him give it up and sometimes questionable things happened that could be attributed to the sword. I believe it was humorous, at least in parts.

Edited to add that it is probably at least 20 years old.

Pratchett's The Colour of Magic had an enchanted sword.

Sara | 8 comments Well dang! I could have came up with that title! I'm sure that's it. I remember the 100 kills and the sword turns on him. Didn't realize it was a series though. Thanks!

Also, I've read The Colour of Magic so many times, and strangely enough I don't remember an enchanted sword! Weird.

Kring. Never stops boasting. Drags Rincewind around for a bit.

Maybe I'm remembering it wrong - it's a long time since I've read it.

Brenda Clough (brendaclough) | 964 comments Could it have been GATE OF IVREL, by C.J. Cherryh? a Michael Moorcock novel (he wrote an entire series about an evil black sword, too bad I can't remember any titles)?

Francis Franklin (francisjamesfranklin) | 57 comments Saberhagen did a whole series about swords that had been forged by Vulcan. Shieldbreaker couldn't be let go of while there were other weapons about, but couldn't harm an unarmed person.

No, it's probably me. My memory sucks!

I still thinks it's The Misenchanted Sword, but I like this idea too. I'll have to check it out.

Moorcock wrote a series about Elric and his sword (Stormbringer)was inhabited by a demon who in the end killed him.

Francis Franklin (francisjamesfranklin) | 57 comments Kind of the opposite concept, but one series I have never forgotten is the Darksword trilogy:

Gnrevolution | 3 comments Yeah Moorcock wrote the Elric series but I don't remember it being very amusing...

Sara | 8 comments I have started The Misenchanted Sword, and I have definitely read this before. It's not necessarily funny, but it is light'ish. I believe I actually know where the sword ends up at the end. It will be interesting to see if my memory is correct!
