Michael Should this book really be a sequel to The Alloy of Law?

I always thought that tAoL was a stand alone book, in between trilogies 1 and 2 of Sanderson's proposed trilogy-of-trilogies.
Is Shadows of Self to be a sequel, or simply the first instalment of the second urban-era'd trilogy of Mistborn books?

What do you think? Are there any sources on this?

Sanderson himself has confirmed that "the second Alloy of Law" will be called Shadows of Self, but by this does he mean the second stand alone title based around the mythology, or a direct sequel?

ZAS
The second Alloy of Law is called Shadows of Self, right?
BRANDON SANDERSON
Shadows of Self, yep.

Gianluca To be precise, The Alloy of Law was originally born as a creative writing exercise. It turned out a lot better than Brandon expected though, and he decided to publish it. I read somewhere that, seeing how much people enjoyed it, he then opted to spawn his second Mistborn trilogy out of it. So, as far as I know, The Alloy of law is the first book of the new trilogy, and Shadows of Self will be the second, therefore a direct sequel.

Thank you for the information!
After reading tAoL I personally would prefer it to have remained a single book, I feel as if it lacked the depth which in my opinion made the first Mistborn trilogy so good.
Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed the Alloy of Law, I thought it was a great book, I just can't see it evolving anywhere from here...

Gianluca You're welcome.
I personally can't wait for this second book because I loved everything about The Alloy of Law. The story still has a lot of potential, and the characters were just to damned likeable to be left without a sequel.

Ungar5 i recently bought the alloy of law (since i only heard it in audio version and didnt own a hard copy), and its a newer edition. in the acknowledgment, sanderson explains that he started the alloy of law as a distraction and didnt intend for it to be published. but after he published it, he was asked to make a trilogy with wax as the main protagonist, so two more books are in the making. this trilogy is NOT part of the trilogy-of-trilogies he originally intended. he says that the 2nd trilogy will take place in the equivalent of our 21st century, and the 3rd will be a distant future one(i think space travel but im not sure).

Tracy A. I'm actually thrilled that Shadows of Self won't be released until late 2015 because I have so many series to read before that time, in addition to re-reading The Alloy of Law. Even so, I get to go to a Brandon signing this weekend, purchase Firefight, and finally get Words of Radiance signed! (It's been since Steelheart was released.) So excited!
