E.J. Jackson (elainejenny) | 74 comments Has anyone ever tried a 'First Two Chapters' (or similar) e-book Giveaway to promote your book? I was thinking of doing this, in the hope that if people download the first part they will want to read more. I'd be very interested to know if anyone else has ever tried this and what results you had - did downloads equate to eventual book sales?

C.P. Lesley (cplesley) | 199 comments The first chapters of both my books are available as free samples on my book pages at Goodreads: no one has downloaded them. The e-bookstores also make the first 30 pages or two chapters available as free samples, but I don't know any way to track how many people downloaded the free sample, then went on to buy the book.

I know I have made sales through Goodreads, but apparently not because people downloaded the free samples available at Goodreads (they may have checked the samples available elsewhere before purchasing).

So I think it's useful to upload them, just so that you make a good impression, but I don't think they translate to sales.
