Nicolas Wilson | 33 comments The wife is sick and under orders not to leave the house, and I think she'll go insane without some new reading material, since she'll probably be stuck in bed for at least a week.

She's pretty bound and determined to support indie authors as a moral obligation, though she's the most quality-finicky reader I know.

Anyone got any ideas on what I can grab for her? I'd like to fill the kindle tonight when I get home from work, because I'm pretty sure she'll have made it through everything on it by then. She likes speculative fiction and science fiction and horror a lot, but is also a huge fantasy nerd. Really, she'll read anything so long as she likes the characters.

Ken B | 6810 comments There's a couple of threads going about freebies from Amazon and free ebooks. Check those out, they are loaded with indie horror, etc.

Be sure to look at the newest posts as several of the titles are only free (or discounted) at the time of the post and may be marked back up.

11811 (Eleven) (11811) | 1561 comments By the time I find out about recommendable indie horror it's no longer indie; it's top 10. I'm always the last to know.

Char | 17463 comments I would recommend this novella: Mosquitoes

This novel (this author is now with Darkfuse, but I believe he was an indie when this came out):
Burden Kansas

I enjoyed this novel as well:
City Under the Moon

I hope your wife feels better soon.

Michael Brookes (technohippy) Mask of the Macabre by David Haynes

and

Ballet of the Bones by David Haynes

are both excellent horrors.

I like to think my own are pretty good as well :-)

Mercedes (mudmule99) Oh I loved Damaged Damaged by Troy McCombs

Nicolas Wilson | 33 comments 11811, I know the feeling. I don't get to do much reading nowadays, since I'm working seven days a week, plus my writing schedule. You'd think an indie author would have more of an idea where to look to get an outsider perspective on indie books.

Everyone's been great, though! I've got so many stories to occupy her, and I know she'll love it.

Nicolas Wilson | 33 comments Charlene, thanks for recommending Mosquitoes. She really enjoyed it, maybe a little too much. I think she's transposed the mosquitoes to spiders in her mind, because of her arachnophobia, and I think it's going to be one more ludicrous spider fear that I hear about the next time she sees one on the ceiling and passes out. I'm happy for the author, but dreading my next encounter with her homicidal-spider-invasion.

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 964 comments I could plug some of my stories, but I will refrain - though you can feel free to check it out- however, I would recommend my Brother Evans Light and his novella "ArborEATum." It is very good.

Nicolas, thanks for letting me know that she enjoyed it!
I'm sorry if it makes trouble for you, though.

Nicolas Wilson | 33 comments Oh, I'm used to it. She'll cry for hours after seeing a spider, after I remove it, because the dog was dancing underfoot, and she's CONVINCED it's fallen and burrowed into the dogs fur and is going to either eat her furbaby, or hitch a ride to come eat her instead. I keep trying to persuade her that spiders DON'T organize ambushes, or burrow into skin, or eat brains, or suck blood... nothing's worked.

The woman has seen more than her share of blood and gore. She is fascinated watching doctors draw blood or set stitches. She loves heights, and used to do aerial acrobatics. And a little daddy long legs sends her into hysterics. I've learned to laugh at it over the years, because otherwise it would probably annoy the crap out of me. And it is pretty @(#*%& funny.

Adam, I'll look up ArborEATum. It looks entertaining, and I think she's whittled her batch down a bit.
