Cindy Amrhein (historysleuth) | 55 comments Wow. I wonder what will happen? Will it only point to Amazon to buy the books? Will members be able to discuss freely the KDP select program? Amazon reviews seem to get out of control sometimes with not much monitoring for abuse. Lots of things to wonder about with this one.

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) Or will Goodreads eventually merge with Shelfari? Goodfari? (sounds like a mob boss)

Dean MacAllister (deanmacallister) Shellreads? Goodshells? Amashell?

message 5: by K.A. (new)

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) Hmm. Shellreads sounds kind of hollow. Goodshells sounds like "she shells sheashells by the sheashore". Amashell? sounds like a question. Gonna have to come up with something entirely new...

John McCarthy | 7 comments If the concept is corrupted the merged companies should be called ShelfGoodreads.

I'd like to know if authors are now going to be able to delete their books entirely from this website if they choose to delete their accounts because of the buyout.

Many have already left Goodreads, unaware that they have no control over their books still being in the public database. Goodreads says it's "against policy". Long overdue to change this policy, hm?

Kathy (klzeepsbcglobalnet) | 2 comments Readers can add books, so I don't see how authors could control this if their books are out there in the world.

since this is primarily a book cataloging and review site, no it is not a long overdue change

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) My first book was added by a reader, not by me, so I don't see how it would work for authors to be able to delete them...

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 188 comments I think so long as a book remains on a shelf then it remains here. Because an author has left doesn't mean the readers of their books have. I am assuming when people say they will be "deleting their books" they mean they will delete what it on the shelves so the overall count is lost as it were. Example "Book A" was on a shelf called "Books to avoid" and the owner of that shelf has now left - thus "Book A" is now not listed as being on that shelf but remains in the database as others have it.

I was under the impression a book could not be deleted from the database at all?

Dean MacAllister (deanmacallister) I had a pile of books fall on me the other day....but I can only blame it on my shelf.

Stephen Fraser (stephen_b_fraser) | 141 comments I could see amazon scrapping Shelfari in a couple years. I am not sure whether or not Amazon buying Goodreads is a good thing or bad i will just wait and see. One thing I do know for sure is we will see more marketing and changes no matter what happens.
