ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Yay, another book down! What Happened to Goodbye by Sarah Dessen

And since we haven't had one of these in awhile...

message 452: by Jex (new)

Jex (jexball) | 2227 comments I finally finished Memoirs of a Geisha yesterday. The middle got boring so I had trouble getting through it. But at least another one knocked off of the list.

I've decided that once I finish the books I have currently from the library I'm going to only read books from my house except for BOMs. We'll see how long that goal lasts.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments I put Memoirs of a Geisha down at the midway point about 14 years ago and I haven't had the desire to pick it up since. I have two copies, too, LOL! That's one of the books that I didn't realize I had two copies of until the other day, haha.

I was just thinking about how I should hold off on library books for awhile and just read what I have in the house but I'm just not sure if I can do it.

message 454: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I haven't been able to Teresa. I have hundreds of books at home and still end up reading library books.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments LOL, I'm doomed! I was thinking of setting up a personal challenge (or plan, not necessarily a challenge) to read so many "on my real shelf" books per month. We'll see... I'm not sure I can do that for the next couple of months yet, LOL. Most of what I want to read is from the library.

message 456: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I say I'm going to do that every year and it doesn't happen.

I have a severe case of "shiny book syndrome".

Rebecca NJ (njreader) | 2120 comments Stopping by from Team Moonstone (not spying...this time!)

I chuckled earlier today when I was reading about "avoiding" the library and trying to focus on the books you have at tome. I have the exact same problem and think it really is a severe case of "shinny book syndrome!" So, what happened to me tonight, went to drop off 1 book...ended up leaving with 6. All of them were on hold and all came in at once. Sigh....

Enjoy your evening!

message 458: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments **hee hee** I do the same thing.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Shiny Book Syndrome - I love it!

Ahhh, the dreaded "all your holds are ready at once" ordeal. Yep, that tends to happen when I put checked-out books on hold while my account is full. I figure if they're checked out, I've got time to read what's already on my account, then bam, everyone decides to return their books fast! That's when I borrow my son's library card, LOL! I can't just let the books go back on the shelf, you know..hehe.

message 460: by Rebecca NJ (new)

Rebecca NJ (njreader) | 2120 comments LOL!! I think there is a maximum of 50 books. I usually don't have more than 6-7. However, my co-worker forgot her card on our weekly lunch trek and she added 5 more to the stack! Next time I'm adding my books to her card!

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments 50?!?! I'd be in heaven! And buried in library books, LOL! Our limit was 25 for a long time but a few years ago the library changed their system to 10 books per account but they allow every single person in the household to have their own 10-limit account. So, now for my house it's 30, though my husband can be stingy with his because A)He likes to check out a lot of DVDs and B)I take awhile to get through all of my books if I check out a bunch, so he hates having his space taken up by me, lol.

message 462: by Jex (new)

Jex (jexball) | 2227 comments I couldn't imagine having a 10 book limit! We have 50. It used to be 25 books and then 10 digital (anything downloaded audio/ebook) but they merged them together recently which I love because it upped the amount of items plus made it one website. So much easier!

message 463: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments FYI, I have "officially" moved back to Cadet Blue. I'm still working out who is doing the 7% Challenge. I may take myself off. I'll keep you posted on my decision.

I'm working on adding someone to a new Team and, of course, the Sunday Update.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Welcome back!

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Oo and I started a friendly competition to see who can read the most Nora Roberts books between the dates of August 1 to August 8. It's called "Leo vs Leo" because Oo and I are both Leos, born one day apart (though "a few" years between). It has garnered the interest of a few other girls from other teams so I thought I'd post the details here and if you'd like, you can join in on the fun, too! Friendly but fierce, because this Leo intends to eat the competition! The Leo vs Leo link is where you can express your desire to participate. (Completely for fun, not at all mandatory to play along, it's just a little fun inter-team competition).

Leo vs Leo

1 – 8 Aug: August Girls Faceoff / Leo VS Leo
Who can read the most amount of Nora Roberts novels during the time frame. No penalties. The reward is bragging rights as the ultimate Robster.

Nora Roberts

Series List

Single Titles List:(view spoiler)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments No J.D. Robb allowed, Teresa?

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Lisa Kay wrote: "No J.D. Robb allowed, Teresa?"

Well, I wanted to keep it to Nora Roberts mainly because our mutual love of books written specifically by Nora (especially her 90s releases) was what kind of inspired our little battle.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments ❀ Oo ❀ wrote: "Love the art work! Including the doggies. You're so good at finding pictures."

Thanks! Hey, I just realized the doggies fit my "year of the dog", but I really picked it because well, doggies! LOL.

Okay, just checking. While I prefer her as J.D. Robb, I do read the occasional NR. I'm sure I can fit one in. Thanks!

Welcome.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Great job, Cadet & Pewter Blue for completing the 7% Solution!!

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments

So, team, what's up? How is everyone doing today, and this week? Now that we have finished the 7% solution (yay us and Pewter Blue), I wanted to come post in this thread more regularly again. So, everyone, check in and let us know where you stand on reading, what books you are enjoying and have enjoyed this past month.

What book(s) do you plan to tackle next, if you have a plan? Participating in any fun challenges other than this one?

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Hi Teresa!

I'm in the middle of switching jobs this week and my future former boss is making things difficult for me. The last mail exchange he said that he wouldn't not accept my vacations. Since I gave him 18 days of warning instead the 8 stipulated on my contract that sure pissed me off. I'm so annoyed right now that I'm actually considering to terminate my contract today, penalties be damned.

In a lighter mood, I started The Passage (The Passage, #1) by Justin Cronin , although I'm terrible behind, and had a buddy read scheduled for Moonglow (Darkest London, #2) by Kristen Callihan , also terrible behind. Since I'm so upset today, I'll probably will check on Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble (Jolie Wilkins, #1) by H.P. Mallory because I need a fun/mood lifting reading.

How are you mighty muffin captain of the mod squad?

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Grrr, that sucks about the future former boss, Sonia! You're being more than generous and he's going to be that way?? Hope the penalties aren't too severe, though it sounds like you're fed up enough to not even care! I don't blame you.

Those books all look great! I wanted to read The Passage but I couldn't get into it so I put it aside for awhile. I really want to read the sequel so I know i'm going to give it another shot, it's just a matter of when I want to make the time for such a chunkster.

I'm fine, thanks! I made triple chocolate muffins for breakfast and I'm about to go make some coffee before enjoying a second muffin, hehe. I need to finish a book, too. I'm almost done but i keep putting it down to do other things. Time to buckle down and cross it off the list and get it on the spreadsheet!

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments It really sucks, Sonia! I'd be mad, too.

message 479: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments What really ticks me is that I did everything by the book. Since he couldn't convince me to stay another month, now he is playing the power cards.

I'm not sure if I'll be back on monday...

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Would serve him right if you left him in a lurch! Grrr. I'm mad at him on your behalf, LOL. (I'm a very loyal person, hehe, I get so mad on behalf of my friends).

LOL

Thanks Mighty Muffin :)
I'm going to indulge in some ice cream with my sister, which means I got to hug her adorable baby and will get my contract and some info and Monday will be paying a visit to work authority regulation before making any rash decision.

Meanwhile I'm cleaning my temporary desk just in case *giggles*

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Ice cream and a baby sounds like a great way to get your mind off that work business! Have fun. :)

message 484: by Jex (new)

Jex (jexball) | 2227 comments Have we started thinking about what our August Challenge will be? I think that's due soon or something. My brain needs to be fed before it can think of anything, but I'll come back later with my ideas :-)

message 485: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Jex, we need it designed by July 26th. Per the poll vote in the Captains' Group, looks like it will be over the whole month of August.

BTW: We (as Mods) need to determine what should be the percent of book goal for each Team.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments I'll make a thread in our sister group for sharing of ideas for the August challenge but I probably won't be thinking too hard about it until closer to July.

message 487: by Jex (new)

Jex (jexball) | 2227 comments For some reason I thought it was due June something. But meh...doesn't hurt to brainstorm early.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments I made a thread...but of course I forgot to grab the link and now I'm about to go make dinner. It's in the sister group. :)

Now fax me some dinner.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Thanks, LK! I was just about to come post it because dinner went faster than I expected. Now I just have to wait an hour for it to cook, boo.

LOL@ faxing you dinner. You'll have to wait, too. :p

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments *peeks in, sees Sonia's comment* That 7% Solution took a lot of time away from uniforms, didn't it?

First, a little bit of Elvis, just because it's Elvis!

And finally, to make up for lost time...
