CountessPaige de Quantity | 150 comments Announcement

A decision has been made regarding the use of juvenile/children's/middle grade books for Round II. We have decided that we will accept all non-picture books equal to and greater than 160 pages. Little children's books are still not acceptable (for example: Hop on Pop by Dr. Seuss , Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr. , and Richard Scarry's Best Rainy Day Book Ever by Richard Scarry ).

As you are reading your book, think about the following: does it seem like there are 250 words per page? How many pages have you read in 15 minutes - is it more than normal? When you tag your book look at the other editions - does that version's page numbers look similar to the others. If you have a question, ask in the Page Numbers, Just About Page Numbers... and we will help you out.

For all electronic books (ebook/Kindle/audio) that do not have an equivalent print copy on goodreads, they will still be verified for a word count. In situations where electronic books vary by 100 pages to print editions, those will also be verified.

The Moderators and Countess Paige will still be conducting random spot checks. We reserve the right of veto power over some books, specifically ‘gift books’, ‘novelty books’, or ‘coffee table books’.

Thank you for your time and understanding!

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Hi team!!!!

Does anyone have any suggestions to the August BAP challenge?

We can snoop around consult other team's challenges and use them, as long as we give the team the credit.

So... are you ready to try to read 75 books in August? Who's with me?

How about everyone who wants to join in suggest something they really want to do?

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Hi Emy, welcome to the team!!!

message 509: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments For our August Challenge, I kind of like what Pewter Blue was thinking of doing. Finding "beach reads" on listopia's Best Beach Reads 2013 (998 books) and One Day Best Summer Reads (over 1,700 books) or one of the other that list Summer reads by genre.

message 510: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments I like it.

I also like the Mango Tango series chain, but I'm a series reader, so I'm biased.

message 511: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments I like series, too. However, I don't know how many of our group will do the challenge.

message 512: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Good Point. The lystopia about summer readings by genre is a better move.

message 513: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Sonia loves Mango Tango's book by the numbers? WOOT!

message 514: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments LOL, Steven that is so cool!

Yes, I like it. I wanted to be rebeld and go to your thread and state that I will be participating too, but helas, RL got in the way and didn't let me invade you.

Emy | 52 comments Helloooo, I'm a new member of Cadet Blue! *waves*

I'm Emy, I live in England and I'm a creative writing PhD student. I love reading. :D

I'm planning on reading 80 books and my shelf is called nbrc-tower-teams-cadet-blue. Now I just need to add all the qualifying books to the shelf! :)

Edit: Added 24 books to my shelf. There was one other that had enough pages that I finished after April 12th but, alas, I started it in February so it didn't count.

message 519: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Hi again Emy

*whispers to Emy*
We only validate finish date for this round, so as long as you finish the book after April 12th, it counts.

Right Lisa Kay?

message 520: by Emy (new)

Emy | 52 comments *stage whisper* Ohhh, really? I was trying to work it out from the rules but I wasn't sure. If this is confirmed, I'll add that one too!

message 521: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Welcome to Cadet Blue, Emy!

message 522: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments **whispers back** That is correct, Sonia. If you finished it on or after April 12th, it counts. ☺

message 523: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments BTW, Sonia, I was thinking maybe eight categories for the August challenge. Then we could do Steven's/Mango Tango's series train, too.

message 524: by Emy (new)

Emy | 52 comments Thanks for the welcome! :)

*whisper* Good to know, thank you! I'll add it.

message 525: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments Lisa Kay - are you on this team or Pewter Blue? I am confused.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments LK is on Cadet Blue. She was a part of the Cadet blue/Pewter Blue 7% Solution Challenge. Is that maybe where your confusion is coming from? Oh, I think she had joined Pewter Blue at some point, come to think of it, but then she went back to CB to help their numbers.

message 527: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Yes, but then Pewter Blue didn't use any of my books. So, just to really confuse things, I joined Forest Green for the 7% Solution. Now I'm back on Cadet Blue. ☺

*snort* I think you just enjoy keeping everyone on their toes!

I'm so sorry I have not been around lately to lend an encouraging word or motivational speech or any sort of support! You all seem to be doing just fine on your own but I still feel a little obligated to make sure everyone is still enjoying themselves and keeping up with their reading and so on! Hope all is well with everyone.

I like your ideas (that you've had so far) for your August Challenge!

Very sweet, Baroness Blue. Yes, we are still friends.

message 533: by Jex (new)

Jex (jexball) | 2227 comments Sorry I've been silent lately. Life got really busy. However, I finished two books!

The Passage (The Passage, #1) by Justin Cronin and The Age of Miracles by Karen Thompson Walker . The first was awesome but waaaaaaay too long, and the 2nd put me to sleep every time I listened to it (audio book).

message 534: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Yay, Jex. Man-oh-man! The Passage is big.

message 535: by Jex (new)

Jex (jexball) | 2227 comments Definitely big. Every time I read I didn't even feel like I was making a dent in the thing. I think it could have easily been split into a series instead of being so long.

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Hi Team!!!!

Ok 2 things.

First, Gwendolyn's invite: I'm a big HP fan and I don't re-read the books for a while, so I'm sooo joining this one *inner fan squeals all over the place*

message 538: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Second thing?

message 539: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Second,

The August Challenge.

Since I had some free time on work a.k.a. I have a task ahead of me that I don't want to do, my brain started thinking.

So, I'm not sure if is ok or not, LK you'll have to aprove this, since I'm using one of our challenges as inspiration. How about doing a all-about-the-team sort of challenge?

1)Our team's name is CADET BLUE - this one is pretty easy, just a traditional spell-it-out for all the fans in our team

2)Our team's color is BLUE - read a book with a blue color

3)Our team's theme for the RaT was Books in Uniform. I like this one so much, why not to repeat it.

4)"Behind friendly lines" - "steal" a book from a cadet blue's member shelf.

5)

message 543: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Sonia, for #4 - may it be any book on a Team member's shelf, as in any date? Or only since April 12th?

message 544: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Since April 12th. Using teh same rules as "behind the enemy lines"

I only thought about this ones... but wanted to post them to the team to begin discussion and strategy and stuff

message 545: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments I'm really, really loving them. Thanks, Sonia!

message 546: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments :)

And we can choose to do as in the 7% solution, using all members read books during August.

message 547: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Lisa Kay wrote: "You're part of the approval process, too!"

Yes, but I'm biased to my own ideas *naughty smile*

message 548: by Jex (new)

Jex (jexball) | 2227 comments For #5 we could the favorite genres of the team members. Everyone puts in their favorite genre and you have to read from that list?

For example:
Jex loves Dystopia and Lk loves Historical Fiction so you have to read a book in one of those categories (but it would be one genre from each team member that submits one)

message 549: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Oh, I like that idea, Jex!

Of course, my favorite is Historical Romance, something you might not want to read. Though, right now I would really like to find a bunch of historical mysteries.
