Baroness Blue | 70 comments Just a reminder: Leaving town tomorrow through Sunday, though I don't know when I will be present on Sunday, if at all. Eek... can someone cover the Sunday Update? I will go do the spreadsheet right now, though it won't be completely up to date by Sunday.

Will work on setting up the August threads sometime between Sunday & Monday night, assuming the challenge has been approved.

Baroness Blue | 70 comments August Challenge Thread where you can reserve a spot to post any books you plan to read and what categories you think they'd fit.

August Challenge *FINISHED* Books Only Do not post until August 1 at the earliest and only your completed books.

Jessica (thebookcellar) | 102 comments Sonia,

You made perfect sense. :) Cleared everything up for me. I will definitely help pull my weight, and I will post my books by the end of the weekend. I have to stop by my house (currently at my parents) to see what books would be a best fit for this challenge.

Look forward to getting to know everyone. :)

ps: I was born in Newmarket Ontario, but if it helps you could use Toronto Canada because I was only 30 minutes north of Toronto.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Thanks, Teresa! Yes, I did watch that TV show. **smacks forehead**

message 705: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (thebookcellar) | 102 comments Books in uniform? What should I do for that one? Wasn't here for the read-a-thon unfortunately :(

message 706: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Let me try to find it :)

message 707: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Basically any book where a character uses an "uniform". The usual Doctors, firefighters, cops, soldiers... other ones like bartenders... or even the unusual types like wizards attires, Lara Croft wardrobe, etc.

I am looking for Teresa's post about it but is not an easy task...

message 708: by ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (last edited Jul 25, 2013 05:09PM) (new)

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Books about characters who wear a uniform of any kind, Jessica. Cops, sports, firemen, other things I don't recall now, haha. I was pretty liberal with what I considered a uniform for the read-a-thon (back when I was a member of CB. Now I'm just an honorary visitor/stalker hehe).

Sonia's probably looking for the info.

Might be in the Readathon thread in the sister group. Let's see who finds it first!

message 711: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Found it!

It was on th eread-a-thon thread on the sister group... duuuuhhh

*giggles*

a uniform could represent just about ANYTHING. Doctor's uniform, medic, cop, military, forensic scientist wears lab coats, shifter uniform could be their animal form?, vampire hunter if they wear a specific everyday wardrobe?, etc.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments I found it first! *sticks tongue out at Sonia* hehehe!

message 713: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Don't ask me why Teresa but I wasn't seeing the read-a-thon thread on the sister group... I forgot to click on the see more option.

Oh... just figure it out why... is 1:15 AM... I should be sleeping..

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Hahaha!

Well, *I* should be doing anything but sitting here! Like packing! And finishing up laundry folding/putting away/packing! And showering! And getting ready for the road tomorrow.

I went through the entire readathon thread because there's some good stuff there that will fit for your August challenge, too. I'll be sure to send BB a nudge to get those things posted in your August challenge thread.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments 'night, Sonia!

LOL, glad I could help fill your bag-of-tricks.

Alright, I think I'm logging off for awhile! Must go pack...and stuff, ugh.

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments The oldie fav uniforms continue with Friday in Uniform: Platoon's Tom Berenger and Charlie Sheen *sigh*

message 725: by Jex (new)

Jex (jexball) | 2227 comments Sorry I'm a little late to the discussion. If it's not too late to add it in I've also lived in:

Washington, DC
Portland, OR
Salem, OR (or close enough...no one has heard of Monmouth)

message 726: by Sonia (last edited Jul 26, 2013 04:28PM) (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Jessica & Jex, added your locations to the challenge - official August thread

The tasks splitting and challenge guides on the sister group will have to wait for Baroness Blue's weekend trip to be over.

Jessica (thebookcellar) | 102 comments Question! For the generes we have two main categories of Adult and YA. When we are choosing a dystopian, fantasy, etc, do they have to be adult or can they also be YA. Reason I ask is because usually fantasy are sub categories of adult and Ya.

I hope that made sense. :)

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Lisa Kay wrote: "That guy looks like he is missing some of his uniform, Teresa."

Maybe I consider that to be a part of his uniform, ;)

Tom Berenger in Sniper, swoon!

Good question, Jessica. Personally, I feel that if it qualifies as fantasy or dystopian as a sub-genre, the main genre (YA/Adult, etc) should not matter, but these are mainly Sonia's rules so we will see what she has to say. Perhaps we could ask the person who chose the genre to specify if they prefer adult or ya, etc, and reflect that on the official challenge rules, unless they don't care.

Baroness Blue | 70 comments Sonia: For Step #9, can each person's initial only be used once? For example, you have 1 "E", so if you (Sonia) use the "E" for a book, does anyone else (Jex, say) get to use it or must they move to another initial?

message 733: by Baroness Blue (new)

Yes, we can only use one's initial only once.

BUT, we do have to spell CADET BLUE, so, plenty of letters to go :)

Thanks BB :)

The sub-genres can be both adult or young adult. The rules can be flexible here: choose a "free" category where the book can be shelved. For example The Immortal Rules (Blood of Eden, #1) by Julie Kagawa can be used for young adult, dystopian, urban fantasy and even for fiction.

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Monday in Uniform is Indiana Jones:

Eventually I'll leave the 80's... when the hot uniforms run out :)

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Oh yes, Indy. My mom had a poster from Raiders of the Lost Ark, haha. She loves Harrison Ford. I didn't appreciate him when I was younger, though...wasn't my type. You know, he wasn't in Duran Duran or some other pretty boy music group, LOL. And he wasn't in The Outsiders, which was full of movie crushes for me.

message 738: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Indy was my favorite non-militar character (after Patrick Swayze in a dirty dancing uniform) *giggles*

message 739: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments I finally created a DNF shelf and moved Warm Bodies (Warm Bodies, #1) by Isaac Marion and The Magicians (The Magicians, #1) by Lev Grossman to there. No point on having them on my currently reading shelf if 1)I can't past the zombie reversing state because of love and eating brain cells and 2)The magicians wasn't my thing at all.

Next I'll be reading Dark Places by Gillian Flynn as our BOM and Magic Rises (Kate Daniels #6) by Ilona Andrews as a guilty pleasure.

*inner fan girl squeals at Kate's release tomorrow*

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments So... will you be part of the discussion? Maybe doing one of the DQs days?

*giggles*

message 742: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments 1- I am TERRIBLE at coming up with DQs. Plus it was like 8 books ago. I doubt I remember enough to ask good questions!

2- I'll drop in on the thread and discuss :)

message 743: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments LOL

You can't blame a girl for trying. Steven, the terrible time lord :P

Btw, I've been meaning to ask, what did you do to the poor doggie? what are those things in her head?

Anytime you want, you are always welcome to add your two cents.

Christine (inhalesbookslikepopcorn) | 1052 comments I posted my shelf and put everything I read from 12 April 2013 on that shelf, was that the right thing to do? Also, I put the 162 books goal for a year on the challenge shelf, same question - was that the right thing to do?
