Christine (inhalesbookslikepopcorn) | 1052 comments Really cute, thank you! Thanks for replying to my questions so fast; I already feel welcome :)

I did a bit catching up with the posts, I would like to join the August challenge and have already a few questions :)

First I am answering yours though, my fav genre would be UF (no vampires unless they are side characters), I live in Vienna (Austria) and also have been born in the very same location :)

1. do I have to read one book for each category? (which i think i could not because i have no book for cat 5 - the uniforms) or 9 books in total which could count for any of the 9 cats?
2. I checked my august shelf and I am over- confident that I will read 18+ books (I am always over- confident when I put up my challenge at the beginning of the month :)); although i will be on holiday for 2 weeks :) i love that i can take my kindle everywhere :) I might have a delay when posting finished books though etc.
3. I have 4 books with blue covers, can all of them be added to the challenge for August?
4. if one of the other member's fav genre is the same as mine, does it still count if i read one of those?
5. step 7 is covered i will join the dark places bom read
6. step 8 is covered, i think i choose more than 50% of the books i am going to read by its cover :)
7. step 9 is covered, i read a "S" & "L" book authors first or last name, got it
8. okay, i should have scrolled down in the august challenge thread in the first place to see that I can post my stuff there for the challenge :)
9. oh, you can use one book for multiple stages?
10. i will post my stuff there and then come back, I believe with more questions :)
11. for step 9, can I choose an author with "C" because my name starts with "C" or has it to be another member's name?
12. do rereads count?

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Nice Christine, it would be great having you on August Challenge.

On message #712 posted some links to the threads on our sister group that Baroness Blue has reserved for our challenge.

Yes, you can read 4 blue books.
No, you don't have to participate on every category.

Anytime you post a book on the threads I mentioned, you can add the info where the book can "fit", so when the captain will assembly our challenge results can play "fit best" with all our read books.

Since our challenge was already posted, I'm not sure if we can change the categories to add your name or living place (too bad, because Vienna is beautiful, is one of mine to visit one day places) but we will talk better as soon as August settles in.

Welcome to the team, once more, is good to have another European around :o)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Oh I forget to say. Since you are a UF fan, without vampires, do you read them with shifters? A shapeshifter in his/her "animal" form counts as uniform :)

okay great! thanks for clarifying the stuff :)

currently Vienna is hot as in we have 38°C *ugh*, happy I have a/c at the office :)

sorry in advance to the captain, my first challenge and my post is a mess :(

message 763: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments I would say Frost Burned (Mercy Thompson, #7) by Patricia Briggs would definitely count as a shifter book, Christine.

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments 38 in Vienna?! *shudders* we had a heat wave a couple weeks ago that reached 42 here at Lisbon. I'm crossing my fingers for yours being the same, is too soon to have another one.

message 766: by Christine (last edited Jul 29, 2013 12:18PM) (new)

Christine (inhalesbookslikepopcorn) | 1052 comments I hope the heat wave was only a fluke and we have a bit of a break this week, it was a bit windy today which helped me a lot :)

I think I have "un- messed" my post, it now looks neat :)

Christine (inhalesbookslikepopcorn) | 1052 comments finished Silver-White (The Great North Woods Pack, #1) by Shawn Underhill I liked it, nothing new in regards to the shapeshifter topic though. It's a nice introduction to a new shapeshifter series where the alpha's and protagonist's fur is snow-white. The story follows Evie's adventures as a new shifter.

Christine (inhalesbookslikepopcorn) | 1052 comments Hi Jessica! Could you pls tell me when you've read Legend? I would like to steal it for Step #4 of the August challenge but can't figure out the date you've read it from your challenge entry in the cadet blue folder. thx a lot :)

Btw that will be my only contribution for Step #4, I've checked all the team members shelves and that's the only one for August that we have in common. I've already set up my whole August plan. Only real life can destroy it now :)

message 773: by Emy (new)

Emy | 52 comments I was under the impression that any books read from the start of the challenge were okay, Christine. So any from mid-April onwards!

(Unless I'm wrong. o.o)

message 774: by Christine (new)

Christine (inhalesbookslikepopcorn) | 1052 comments True, but they want us to be specific "Step #4 ...Please give the name of the teammate, the title of the book and the date your teammate read the book for Round 2! ..."

message 775: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Christine if you check on Jessicas's challenge shelf you can add the date read column (using the settings option). She read Legend on July 18th.

If you need help with the shelf settings just let me know and I do some print screens. I think LK has it somewhere but I can't find it now.

message 776: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Found it! It was on GoodReads 101 folder.

message 777: by Christine (new)

Christine (inhalesbookslikepopcorn) | 1052 comments Hi Sonia! Thx a lot! I've never paid attention to "shelf settings" before, that feature comes in handy :)

message 778: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Anytime.

Quite handy. I added the page number, date read and publication date (for the decades challenge) to mine and it allows me to proper tag my read books and validations quicker.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Mystery lovers, have you seen the new challenge here on NBRC??? Mystery Mayhem and Murder Squad Reading Challenge. Join up! :)

message 780: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments I started Magic Rises (Kate Daniels #6) by Ilona Andrews .
Wanted to stay at home all day and read. That didn't happen. Wanted to get home early to read. That also didn't happen.

Wanted to reserve tomorrow's night to read. Real Life won't let that happen.

IT'S THE NEW KATE&CURRAN BOOK!!!

*sits on the floor sobbing*

The good news are that I only be able to finish it in a few days (YES, DAYS, THE HORROR) so it will count as a book in uniform (or other category)

That doesn't sheer me up that much.

*Off to bed sulking*

message 781: by Emy (new)

Emy | 52 comments I haven't actually had any time to read at all in the past week. It probably doesn't help that I'm not enjoying my current read, The Oathbreaker's Shadow (The Knots Sequence, #1) by Amy McCulloch , that much, so I'm not going out of my way to make time for it.

Hopefully will finish it tomorrow before August starts, though.

message 782: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Ohhh Emy that sucks. When books aren't as good as we liked them to be is demotivating.

I used to read 3 books a week. Now I'm only reading 1, if I'm lucky, so I understand your feelings.

Maybe next book will be better :)

message 783: by Baroness Blue (new)

Baroness Blue | 70 comments Home from my trip and not really well-rested at all. It was too long of a drive for a short visit and I'm still recovering. My body and mind are TIRED. Anyway...

Sonia, thanks for helping Christine with the shelf sorting! And boo to you not getting to read your book! Can't sneak it in at lunch time at work?

message 792: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Sure, we can do it!

Can you wait till September? Let me check August BR's calendar, but I think it is pretty full.

message 793: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Can we do it on a "relaxed" buddy style? Or do you have some preference?

message 794: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments I checked the BR schedule, and we have some openings for August if you want. Real Life will demand my attention around 16-18, but I'm free after.

How is your August reading settings? Are you planning on reading Gameboard of the Gods (Age of X, #1) by Richelle Mead or Legend (Legend, #1) by Marie Lu with us?

message 795: by Christine (new)

Christine (inhalesbookslikepopcorn) | 1052 comments finished A Million Suns (Across the Universe, #2) by Beth Revis

I am curious what happens in the final book Shades of Earth of the trilogy on Centauri-Earth :) I will read that one in August. I hope it is getting better.

Jessica (thebookcellar) | 102 comments Tarnish

Finished this book yesterday, read about 250 pages. It was so good! I'm a huge fan of the Tudor era and find Anne Boleyn fascinating. It was a fun read but made me a little sad since we know the outcome.

Historical fiction with some romance. :)

message 799: by Christine (new)

Christine (inhalesbookslikepopcorn) | 1052 comments finished The Forest Unseen A Year's Watch in Nature by David George Haskell non-fiction, 5 stars
I love this book; if you are interested what's going on in the forest year around, you have to read it. The language is beautiful and not overly scientific, I never imagined that so much is going on and gained insights in the natural history I would not have if it wasnt for this book.

message 800: by Emy (new)

Emy | 52 comments Christine: It's not a terrible book, but there's something bugging me about it. I can't put my finger on it, but I think that it's something to do with the world-building. I'll post my review here when I've finished.
