message 1353: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments So I was a bit sad because all was pointing to us falling short in about 8 books - and I was feeling a LOUSY team captain because I let the deadline of changing participation pass... till I decided, let's take a peak to Christine's shelf... And you know what... I'm feeling much better... final results in a bit. *grins*

message 1354: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Arrrrgggggghhhh I miss the counting.... even using Laura's The Prophet, that she read in September but didn't tagg it on Cadet's shelf, we are only 47 instead of 48!!!!!

Has anyone close to finish another one???? I have 7 hours left on hounded... *sigh*

Sad Sonia...

message 1355: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (thebookcellar) | 102 comments I can try and push another book today.

message 1356: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Thanks Jessica. I'm updating the posts with the books read, and then will re-count again. We alreadyy have books for the 8% solution, that will earns us 7 BAP. But not winning the 9 BAP's for one book is itching me all over.

message 1357: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments OK, threads updated (links bellow) We needed 48 books for the 9.9% option. We have now 47, divided as follow:

16 read/16 needed for the a book a day keeps the boredom at bay

5 books for the A- Z author Challenge

26 books for the Animal Alphabet Spell-it-Out

I'll be waiting to post the results till my 10 PM - in 4 hours. After that I'll submit the current results

Jessica (thebookcellar) | 102 comments *sigh of relief* I'm glad we managed to get 9.9% :)

message 1361: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments we did it. it was a close call. You read the double of what your goal was. AWESOME

message 1362: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments I've decided I'm going to shoot for 2,800 pages for my R-a-T goal.

message 1363: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (thebookcellar) | 102 comments I still don't know how many pages I should try for... somewhere between 2,500 - 3,000. I'm tackling a beast A Feast for Crows (A Song of Ice and Fire, #4) by George R.R. Martin coming in at a total of 1060 just for that book alone.

message 1364: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments So, this month I'm going CRAZY and try to read half of Lisa Kay's books *grins* so I'm aiming for 1400. I'm not sure when I'm going to find time to read, but I'm sure going to try! :D

Jessica (thebookcellar) | 102 comments Hey Lisa Kay, are you still planning on reading the Masters of Horror: Dean Koontz? I have a Stephen king book as backup. :)

message 1370: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Jessica wrote: "Hey Lisa Kay, are you still planning on reading the Masters of Horror: Dean Koontz? I have a Stephen king book as backup. :)"

That is my plan, Jessica. I just haven't made a decision on which on. I actually have several unopened CDs to choose from, or maybe I could download from the library the audio of Watchers by Dean Koontz (which I read years ago, but loved).

Decisions, decisions.

Which Steven King do you have as a back-up?

message 1371: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (thebookcellar) | 102 comments Lots of decisions! Sounds like it may be tough Decision. I have two Stephen King books that I haven't read yet: Cujo and Carrie. :)

message 1372: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (thebookcellar) | 102 comments Also, if you guys know some books you are planning to read (doesn't have to be concrete) just so I can have a rough draft that's cool, if not I'm great at on the fly work too! ;)

I have to nanny in the morning so I am off to bed! Goodnight!

message 1375: by Sonia (last edited Oct 02, 2013 04:13AM) (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Thanks Christine!

OK, so for the event #1 our team stats look like this:

PARTICIPANTS & GOALS

Cadets Book Goal Page Goal (just for fun)
Sonia 40 1400
Christine 200 2000
Lisa Kay 190 2800
Jessica 60 2,500 - 3,000

Team Goal:40+200+190+60 = 490

I updated this info into the thread on the sister group. I also added some examples of updates and page % calculation. Any question just ask.

Jessica, since you are the one keeping tracks do you prefer one post per update, or that the info will be updated always in the same spot?

message 1376: by Sonia (last edited Oct 02, 2013 04:17AM) (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments For event #2, the tasks are:

step #1: Theme #2: Masters of Horror - 1 book
step #2: Theme #8: creatures - 2 books
step #3: Theme #9: halloween covers - 3 books
step #4: Theme #10: abilities - 4 books
step #5: Trick or Treat Spell-it-out - 5 books
G
H
O
S
T

Do you all agree with the order, or should we trade creatures with covers?

Jessica asked for a plan of our books, just go here and reserve your spot.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Sonia wrote: "Do you all agree with the order, or should we trade creatures with covers?"

Well, depends. Am I doing Task #1 (Theme #2: Masters of Horror) or is someone else? I don't know if I can start my Dean Koontz book on the 4th or not. (Too many BOMs and "buddy reads"!) I might get to it on the 5th, however.

message 1378: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (thebookcellar) | 102 comments It depends on what you would like to do! I haven't started reading yet as I have had a busy day today. Tomorrow I have work and class. Blah... Hopefully I can get a book done tomorrow plus finish updating some threads.

Just want this day to be over!!!

You can start it anytime you want. As long as we complete all tasks, we're going to win the BAP's. So, let's have some fun and read. read. read.

message 1382: by Christine (new)

Christine (inhalesbookslikepopcorn) | 1052 comments I reserved my spot! *yay* I hope I really can read that many books and no one disturbs my reading time :)

Yay! Now just to find time to read or listen to all the books I want. Can we have a 34 hour day every now and then? LOL!

message 1384: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Okay, made my spot. I posted The Face by Dean Koontz as an option, but it is a "chunkster," so I don't know.

message 1385: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Maybe I'll do Watchers by Dean Koontz for Step #1: Theme #2: Masters of Horror, and leave Dark Rivers of the Heart by Dean Koontz for Halloween covers, if it is black enough???

message 1386: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Actually, I think my cover looks like this one. I'll have to dig it out of the box in the garage.

Christine (inhalesbookslikepopcorn) | 1052 comments @Sonia, I was so sad that I missed the BR on nbrc for The Eternity Cure (Blood of Eden, #2) by Julie Kagawa where you lead the discussion. I started that one now :) and will follow the comments. I read it for *creatures/vampires* in the read-a-thon.

message 1393: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments It happens Christine. I am behind my reading on the cuckoo's calling since I fell asleep on my reader last night.

Feel free to add the two cents on the discussion.

I'm going to have some lunch and the some reading for the RaT :)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Sorry, still plugging away at Task #1 book Watchers by Dean Koontz . I didn't realize it was a "chunkster" when I selected it. Of course, every author in that Theme writes "chunksters"!!! LOL!

Anyway, I'm getting there. Almost done.

message 1395: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (thebookcellar) | 102 comments No worries Lisa Kay! :) Just let me know when you do and I will post it up!

I've gotten some reading done but not as much as I would like for the first day.

Currently reading The Immortal Rules (Blood of Eden, #1) by Julie Kagawa and Girl of Nightmares (Anna, #2) by Kendare Blake

message 1396: by Lisa Kay (last edited Oct 05, 2013 01:24PM) (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Yay! FINISHED Task #1: Theme #2: Masters of Horror.

Here are the numbers for that one:

Watchers, by Dean Koontz (ODA) = FINISHED audio (15 hours 21 minutes) = 165,800 words = 664 pages. Not sure how to count this, as it is a "chunkster" and longer than the paperback indicates. So, I'm going by hours. I did find a corresponding paperback with that number of pages, though that isn't what my paperback copy has.
Watchers by Dean Koontz
