message 101: by Moriah (new)

Moriah Well, hello! I'm a newbie to this group who is finally getting around to spending some time here and getting the full flavor of the place.

I was writing (in my head) before I could read, but when I learned how to read, I made up for lost time! I have eclectic tastes, which is to say, if it's well written and engaging (or, heck, just engaging), I'll probably like it. I cut my genre teeth on Harlequins, bodice rippers, Stephen King, John Jakes, VC Andrews (a tween girl rite of passage), Margaret Mitchell, soap-operaish family sagas, and pretty much anything else I could find that would hold a steel fire door open.

I don't care for nonfiction or audiobooks, but it occurred to me the other day that maybe I'd like them TOGETHER.

So I write...stories. Soap-operaish over-the-top family-saga type stories, contemporary, historical, and (coming up) post-apocalyptic. I gave up trying to label what I do. Helpful little things, labels. Usually. For me, not so much.

Anyway, thank you for the invite, and I'll go wander around now.

Roxanne | 1 comments I am new to this book group thing but this one seemed like a good one! My name is Roxanne and I enjoy reading all kinds of books. I am currently obsessed with Sophie Kinsella. Her books are just so entertaining and easy to read.

Hi everyone,

I joined here since you have read 4 review and sometimes I find stuff here I want to read. I mainly read adult/erotic PNR/UF/Sci-FI and I like them dark, sinfull and perverted. I think I know ppl here. Your board looks good and large so I'll browse around.

Thanks for having me,
M

FindStuff 2Read (FindStuff2Read) | 1 comments Howdy! I've been looking around to find/make some sort of online book club/discussion group and this looked like a promising place.

I haven't yet loaded anything into this goodreads account, but I've been doing book reviews online for about a year. I mostly enjoy sci-fi/fantasy, but I think I've read every fiction genre that exists.

So, I'm going to poke around and see if I can figure out how this place works... but in case I can't, if you'd be interested in doing a book club/discussion - here or elsewhere online - let me know.

Stephanie (StephanieAllenCrist) | 2 comments Hello everyone! I am a professional marketer and a journeyman author working on my first book (under contract) and a few others besides (not under contract). I read widely, but I write mostly nonfiction (autism related) and fantasy (subtly autism related).

I've been somewhat attached to Goodreads for a while, but I'm just starting to learn about all the "hidden" stuff, like groups. Forgive me if I get overwhelmed by everything that's going on that I never knew about.

Victoria_Grossack Grossack (victoriagrossack) | 4 comments Hello everyone! I scribble but will not discuss that here, as it is verboten. I read a lot, too and look forward to discussions.

I have a new pet - my 2nd kindle, which I have christened "firefly" after the sci-fi series that was cancelled prematurely. The name strikes me as apt on many levels, as kindle starts fires, and my kindle also flies with me whenever I board a plane.

Savannah Black (SavannahBlack) | 3 comments Savannah Black here, I enjoy many different genres, one of my favorite books I happened onto by accident and have read and reread it until the cover is falling off is Blood Sucking Fiends by Christopher Moore. He lives in Ca. and the story takes place in the SF bay area. It is a Vampire story extraordinaire.

message 108: by Jeremy (new)

Jeremy | 4 comments Hello all!

My name is Jeremy and I'm an avid reader and aspiring author. The biggest passion in my life is writing, followed by my wife and two kittens! I have finished a novel, but have not published yet.

As for a bit more about my reading life...I love fantasy and sci-fi. Most recently I've been really getting into Steampunk, although the amount of modern steampunk novels is pretty sparse.

I was a "late bloomer" when it comes to reading and for many many years I believed a good writer didn't have to be a reader (boy was I wrong!) I didn't finish reading my first novel for fun until I was around 20/21! Before that, I had only finished one novel, and that was for a college English class. Very sad to think of all the time I lost, all the 'classics' half read (or not read at all) during my High School years.

My two Favorite novels of ALL TIME are The Hobbit and Ender's Game. The most inspirational books in my life are Catcher in the Rye, Peaceful Warrior, and Tuesday's With Morrie.

Looking forward to interacting with everybody!

Karen Hopkins | 5 comments Hi, everyone! The third book in my YA Amish romance has been released. Forever is the last book in the Temptation trilogy. Check it out and see if love is enough for Noah, an Amish boy and Rose an 'English' girl. You can see reviews on my Karen Ann Hopkins FB page. Thanks!

C.L. Schneider (goodreadscomclschneider) | 4 comments Hello ! Thanks so much for the invite. I've been a huge reader since I was a kid. I write/read fantasy (epic & urban), and enjoy sci-fi, horror, and historical fiction. But I would read pretty much any fiction if the story strikes my interest.

My list of favorite books is too long to even keep track of anymore, but Mists of Avalon & Gone With The Wind are at the top.

Looking forward to checking out the group :)

message 118: by Sybil (new)

Sybil Powell (sybilpowell) | 58 comments Life with my NewfoundlandsI have just published a book called "Life with my Newfoundlands" which is just what it says. The blurb says :- This is a book about my four Newfoundland dogs who lived with me and my husband for over twenty wonderful years. Meg was a rescue, a bitch and my first. We spent a year together getting to know each other and bonding, we were inseparable and understood each other at an almost human level. William joined us through some odd circumstances but he was accepted into our family group. Sometimes Meg and I would be like the humans and William the pet, sometimes Meg and William would be canine buddies and I would be the ‘Misses’.
It worked well but when Meg died William and I were distraught, so much so that William would have died if we had not replaced her. Enter Osca my first Newfoundland puppy. Much to my relief William got over his sorrow, Osca saw to that and after a period of acceptance they became firm friends. As for me Osca was a wonderful character though I never got to the understanding I had with Meg but then that was extraordinarily special. He accepted William as the senior always deferring to him even when he was an older dog.
The time came when lovable old William died, Osca was not as affected but by this time we had got used to having two Newfies so a little brown puppy arrived. From birth Hogan had been independent and I always felt he loved us on his terms. Sadly now it was difficult to find enough time to give him the love and companionship that the others had and that I so badly wanted to give him. When he died some time well after Osca, my husband and I decided not to replace them. Things had changed and we could no longer guarantee any new dogs a secure life. My four Newfs live on in my memory and that is why I wrote this book for myself but I thought you might like it.
But where does it go? I simply can't find a genre to take it.

It is good to see baby boomers in lead roles.

Hi all my name is Tammy and I love to read or talk about what I am reading. I like to read a variety but mostly historical fiction. Here lately mystery and suspense has been catching my eye. I wish I could say I write but I am afraid I only do that in my head.

message 121: by Cati (new)

Cati | 5 comments Hello! I'm a new member. I used Good Reads several years ago and then closed my account along with every other social media account I had. Several months later I check a book out from the library and about 3 chapters in realized I'd already read it. That's when I realized the value of Good Reads! So I came back and now I've joined this group to find new and interesting stories.

I have a pretty busy life, so sometimes it takes me several weeks to finish a book, but I love to read and always have plenty on-hand. I'll read pretty much anything if it has an interesting plot, or provides information that I might be able to use.

I look forward to participating!
