jaxnsmom | 8341 comments An intriguing list. I'll be curious what you think of The Queen of Attolia.

I've read it before, as well as the sequel The King of Attolia, and really enjoyed them but it was a few years ago. One of the books I've put on my list to read this year is the 4th book, A Conspiracy of Kings, and I wanted to refresh my memory before starting it.

Have you read them?

message 4: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments No, but I added The Queen to my tbr.

message 5: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments If you liked The Thief, Queen is even better.

message 6: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Ok, I wasn't paying enough attention and missed that there was a book before Queen. Now have both on tbr :)

Lara | 1426 comments Oh, good. You'll want to read them in order. I can't wait to hear what you think of them.

message 8: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments My book will be Deep Change: Discovering the Leader Within. If I really power through it I may be able to get another read in as well.

message 9: by Pragya (new)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4030 comments Yay to discovering the leader within and then probably you will find the speed reading leader within you. :-p

message 10: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments Yes, it was the perfect choice since my little book club meets the following Friday.

message 11: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Uh oh, are we headed for a coup? We'll be watching you :~)

message 12: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments Very funny Jmom! Fortunately I already have my hands full with other responsibilities and can't spare the brain power to interfere with your leadership ;-)

message 13: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments LOL!

message 14: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments Well, now that I know that leadership comes from within, not from above, I may be a threat after all... Duhn duhn DUHN! Just joking. I don't feel any need to take the reins of the group. But I did enjoy this book a lot and highly recommend it.

message 15: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Woohoo for finishing your first book! And I'm glad we don't have to worry about a takeover - they can be so messy :p

So what's your next method and book?

message 16: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments I got the book that has been on my TBR the longest (the ones from my bookshelf are rereads). It is Hold Me Closer, Necromancer (Necromancer, #1) by Lish McBride and so far it is really good.

message 17: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments Yea, I'm done! It was a good read. I'm glad I got to it.

message 18: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Are you going to read a 2nd?

message 19: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments Cherie wrote: "Are you going to read a 2nd?"

Cherie, Necromancer was my second. I thought about trying for a third, but only had a couple of hours before going to pick my mother up from the airport Today I won't get any serious reading done unless it's later tonight. I'm happy with 2 this time.

message 20: by Pragya (new)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4030 comments 2 books! Yay, did you like Necromancer?

message 21: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Oh, sorry! Way to go, for finishing two! :)

message 22: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments Pragya wrote: "2 books! Yay, did you like Necromancer?"

Yes, I'm happy. Necromancer was a very fun read. It was easy to get into and didn't dwell on the bad things that occurred. Did you read any books you liked?

Cherie, no problem! It was a great challenge for me. How was yours?

message 23: by Pragya (new)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4030 comments I only started 1 and couldn't get into it so far. :(

That's rough. Well, if you didn't really are for it at least you know that now.

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments One of my shelves is titled "Not for me." I fairly recently created it so I can keep track of books I've started but rejected along with notes about why. Do you all do anything like this to keep track?

message 26: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments Yes. I have a DNF shelf for the same reason. Sometimes a book is just poorly written or includes a plot device or character I cannot stand.

I read enough that I need a reminder about why I didn't like a book so I don't go for a reread.

message 27: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments I have an abandoned shelf. Most of them I haven't written why, as they are so burnt into my brain why I gave them up, I need no reminders (I also don't put down many books).

message 28: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Oh and I have a Thrown Books shelf for those I did finish and have literally thrown across the room in disgust. forgot about that one heh

message 29: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments Rusalka, I love your Thrown Books shelf idea!

message 30: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59942 comments I also have a shelf named "abandoned". Sometimes I make comments as to why I gave up on it.

message 31: by Pragya (new)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4030 comments I have an 'abandoned' shelf and at times write why it wasn't for me. LOL, Rusalka, good idea for the thrown books shelf, I usually suffice with giving them a 1 star rating and writing a short review about why I didn't like it.

I got one book read and started a 2nd that I am going to have to put aside to catch up on some others. I finally got to read The Giver which has been on my TBR list for a long time. It was a great read although there are two follow up books to the trilogy that I need to acquire and read now. My 2nd book has been on my list for a long time too, but was just too long to hope to finish.

message 33: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments Cherie, I've heard great things about The Giver, and about Lois Lowry in general. I'm glad the book suited you.

message 34: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I have a "started-but-never-finished" shelf. I have one book there that I decided I hated after I was half way through, and another that I have never gotten around to finishing, but not because I did not like it. It is not very efficient. Most just linger on my currently reading shelf until I finish them, IF they get started.

I have a few of those books too Cherie. Some I'm wondering if I'll ever finish, but I'm not ready to give up on them yet.

message 36: by Almeta (last edited Apr 15, 2013 02:53PM) (new)

Almeta (menfrommarrs) | 11458 comments Mine go to the "bring-em-back-alive" shelf, usually because they were due at the library before I could get to them. I don't usually return a book half read; I'll pay the over-due penalty if I have to.☻

Some are there because I want to re-read them at some point.

message 37: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I like "bring-em-back-alive"! I owe 15 cents for a book that I returned late and I never got to read it. I could not extend it because there was a hold on it.

Almeta (menfrommarrs) | 11458 comments Cherie wrote: "I could not extend it because there was a hold on it."

I hate when that happens.

Debra and I have to consult each other occasionally, so that we don't compete for the same book from the library which will then cut the renewal time short.
