This is another one of those, "new to me" authors! I really, really enjoyed this book. I definitely recommend her to anyone else that hasn't had the chance to read any of her books. It's a short excerpt, and there are soooo many other scenes that are great, but I knew I was going to enjoy this book just from this scene alone in the beginning of the book!

…And three years later—as he stood across from her in that hotel room that suddenly seemed far too small, with his eyes glittering with a low-simmering anger, and, yes, even despite the standard-issue suit and tie he wore this time—he looked not one bit less dangerous.

“I want to talk to a lawyer,” Heroine said.

“You are a lawyer,” he said. “And you’re not considered a suspect, so you’re not entitled to one, anyway.”

“What am I considered, then?”

“A person of interest.”

This was bullshit. “Here’s the deal: I’m tired and not in the mood to play games. So if you don’t start telling me what’s going on, I’m walking,” Heroine said.

Hero eyed her yoga sweats and Michigan T-shirt, looking unconcerned with her threats. Thank God she wasn’t still hanging out in her underpants.

“You’re not going anywhere.” He pulled the chair out and gestured. “Take a seat.”

“Thanks, but no. I think I’ll just stick with the plan where I walk out.” Before he could call her bluff, Heroine grabbed her purse and headed to the door. The hell with her stuff, she’d get it later. “It was nice catching up with you, Agent Hero. I’m glad to see those three years in Nebraska didn’t make you any less of an asshole.”

She threw open the door and nearly ran into a man standing in the doorway. He wore a gray suit and tie, appeared younger than Hero, and was African American.

He flashed Heroine a knock-out smile while precariously balancing three Starbucks cups in his hands. “Thanks for getting the door. What’d I miss?”

“I’m storming out. And I just called Agent Hero an asshole.”

“Sounds like good time. Coffee?” He held the Starbucks out to her. “I’m Agent Wilkins.”

Heroine threw a knowing glance over her shoulder. “Good cop, bad cop? Is that the best you’re capable of, Hero?”

He stalked across the room, and stopped in the doorway, towering over her. “You have no idea what I’m capable of,” he said darkly.

June (ladyjune) | 146 comments Oh I know this. It's one of my favorite book. I really love the bantering between hero and heroine, and their friends, they're funny. :)

I am pretty sure I know the author. I think its the first of her Chicago books, but I'm not positive...

DLS, I think you are correct on your author thought! As for the part of a series thought, I don't know! It's the first one I've read! I'll have to look it up to see if there are more! Hopefully so... :)

I just reread this one since I bought a Kindle copy on sale last week. It has a wonderful motorcycle scene. This author does sexual tension so well! Tomorrow I plan to read her new one.

Yay! Thank you, Michelle! ;-)

The book is, SOMETHING ABOUT YOU, By Julie James.

I'm really looking forward to reading her other books!

Oh yeah, I forgot to add, this is the first book in a series! Thanks for letting me know, DLS!

And what a great series it is! Book 4, Love Irresistibly, releases today. It's already waiting for me on my Kindle. :)

I was intrigued too and fancy reading this myself. But is it one of those where the guy always gets the upper hand and the woman just gives in without a fight either verbally or emotionally? Can't abide those books. Thanks.
