Paul Perry (pezski) | 233 comments Thomas, at least under UK law buyer protection comes first; the Distance Selling Regulations give a specified time in which any produce bought by phone, mail or internet can be returned.

While I sympathise with the plight of authors, I can't agree with your petition. As musicians have had to do for some years, writers need to trust in the honesty of buyers and the quality of their work to encourage repeat purchases.

Katherine | 187 comments I never realised until yesterday that you have to pay vat on e books but not on hard copy ones from amazon. And I think the vat rate is something like 25%

Thomas Rydder (thomasrydder) | 6 comments Michael,

On Amazon, every book listed has previews available. My book, for instance, has the entire first chapter and the first couple pages of the second chapter visible to sample. It lists for $2.99.
Therefore, anyone who asks for a refund either had their rent suddenly raised 3 bucks and can no longer afford my book - or wanted something for nothing.
And speaking of the honesty in music buyers, ever hear of Napster? Pay-Per-Download? PiracyBay?
I'm no alarmist, but I am most certainly a realist...
