Brenda ╰☆╮ (brnda) | 1494 comments Yes...reading....but it's going to be a slow start for me.

Someone needs to give me a push.
;)

Got it all ready by my reading chair.

Candice Nunu (nunu_noodles) This is one of my favourite series ever.
Once you get used to the flowery language this book series has an amazing plot, fantastic world building, and character development up the wazoo. :)

Linette I also really liked this series.

Lindsey | 124 comments Read it a few years back and was impressed by the richness of the story/setting from the very beginning. I likely won't have a chance to re-read it entirely this month but will chime in when I can on the discussion.

Bev (greenginger) | 744 comments I liked it and I notice that most contributors so far are women and they liked it. I am guessing that it will not have the same appeal for our males members ( snicker)

lol i read it when it first came out and i enjoyed it, it was a good read and completely different in its setup compared to other fantasy books out at the same time.

i do need to read the follow ups.

Glad you liked it.

Brenda ╰☆╮ (brnda) | 1494 comments I'm the only one who hasn't read it?
:S

Martyn Adams Brilliant Series.

I haven't but do plan to join in this month.

I haven't either. But I'm going to read it with the group this month.

Brenda ╰☆╮ (brnda) | 1494 comments :D
Whew.....

Evilynn | 106 comments I read it and was kinda meh about it. It had some good points (not cookie cutter) and some really bad ones, and I haven't continued reading the series (my review, although beware it contains some spoilers). I think part of my problem was that I really expected to flove it, and I didn't. In contrast to Anne Bishop's Black Jewels books which a lot of people seem to view as second rate Kushiel, and which I ended up liking more.

message 15: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen Love this book. Read it several years ago. Have it on my kindle home page to read again. This will give me the chance to do that, and discuss with others.

Lindsey | 124 comments Heads up, Jacqueline Carey just linked our group read on Facebook a couple hours ago. Wonder if we can get her to do a Q&A?

Elizabeth Very much looking forward to this discussion -- happened to be in the middle of a reread of the two trilogies when I saw this come up. I'm a big fan of the books, after thinking I would not be.

Carolyn Hoffman I read this series a couple of years ago and loved it. The last book perhaps not so much but basically this series did exactly what I like in fantasy--strong female lead, good story, interesting world, a bit of romance doesn't hurt either. Decent writing, plausible characters I can relate to and not too much magic. I like a subtle touch with that.

Lára | 479 comments Boring
going to pass this month´ books

Brenda ╰☆╮ (brnda) | 1494 comments Now I'm even more curious.

How far did you get Lara? Just not your cup of tea?

To be honest, me either. I've looked at Kushiel before and despite rave reviews by some fans, I think the subject is not my cup of tea.

message 22: by Kenn (new) - rated it 1 star

Kenn Anderson (kennic64) I little too much "erotica" for me. I'll work to finish it, but don't think I will read any more of the series.

Lara what did you think was boring?
It may be heavy on the erotica and strong female character but it surely cannot be classed as boring. Really?
Seriously what sort of stuff would you have preferred to read this month?

Lára | 479 comments Brenda ╰☆╮ wrote: "Now I'm even more curious.

not far at all. It was slow, sassy and just boring.
nothing to discuss here. couldn´t continue, period.
I see you have problems with it, too. (;

Brenda ╰☆╮ (brnda) | 1494 comments Not so much problems with it, as problems getting to it.

I haven't been able to concentrate on reading due to work. Lots of strange hrs.
:)
I hope to find it at least different, a new experience.
:)

*shrug*
What I'm hearing does suggest it might be difficult to discuss.

message 26: by Katey (new) - added it

Katey Excited to begin this read.

It appears, from the reviews, to be "50 Shades of Grey" taking place in one of Littlefinger's brothels in "A Song of Ice and Fire."

That said, jumping in head first and beginning tonight.

message 27: by Rob (new)

Rob (lonecowboy) Get ready to read ch 4-6 today. So far, getting used to the lingo, background, and style. Nothing to rant or cheer about. :)

Candice Nunu (nunu_noodles) Oh no, please don't compare 50 shades drivel to this outstanding piece of art! I promise you it is so much more :)

Jacinta Hoare | 21 comments Struggling with this already, will persist for a while but I may be putting this one aside for a time when a fluffy holiday read is called for.

message 30: by Katey (new) - added it

Katey @Candice - no worries, I'll give it an open mind! 50 Shades is the only other (published!)erotica I'd read.

Started it last night and plan to read more tonight!

The FountainPenDiva, Old school geek chick and lover of teddy bears (thefountainpendiva) Ironically, romancelandia had issues with the relationship between Phaedre and Joscelin because it "violated" one of their sacred tenets. I won't spoil it for those who haven't read it yet, but for those who have you'll pretty much guess what had their underwear in a bind, lol. As for me, this is one of my favorite series.

Sandra (sleo) | 1913 comments I started listening this morning. It's LONG! 34 hrs!

Laura I loved this series

message 34: by ajah (new) - rated it 5 stars

ajah "Love as thou wilt" ... Ok I love this book!

Jessie R (magiccircle) | 16 comments I've read it.
It was a very well written book; though you have to enjoy the journey that the writing takes you on, instead of concerning yourself with the destination..

It was a very original and unique Fantasy novel, indeed=D

Jacinta Hoare | 21 comments Its getting better ...

Half way through the month, probably wont finish it by month's end because I am finding plenty of reasons to put it aside.

Cerys Lys (cerysdulys) I've already read it, but I loved it a lot. It's one of my most favorite books, actually.

Personally, I think they all just keep getting better and better over time. It was a little slow to start, but I think the build up was worth it.

Books 4-6 are basically my all time favorite love story books, if that says anything about how the books and story progresses over time. 1-3 are wonderful, too, though.

I wouldn't really related this book to Fifty Shades, though. I actually enjoyed all of the Fifty Shades books, too, but aside from very vague, general similarities(the BDSM parts), they aren't at all similar to me.

Brenda ╰☆╮ (brnda) | 1494 comments This world is somewhat familiar. :)
Is it an alternate universe?

Linette Pretty easy to pick out the applicable European countries isn't it :)

Sandra (sleo) | 1913 comments And religions.

Brenda ╰☆╮ (brnda) | 1494 comments I want to yell out the "signal"!
