Ashley (icecheeseplease) I've been thinking about riddles lately (and how bad I am at them). I feel like they are a lost art and that people of my age or younger don't have the patience for them.

Here are a few from various sources, a couple you may recognize from The Hobbit- which is probably what got me thinking about the subject in the first place. I'll put the answers at the bottom, backwards.

1. At night they come without being fetched,
And by day they are lost without being stolen.

2. What has roots as nobody sees, is taller than trees, up, up it goes, and yet never grows?

3. What comes once in a minute, twice in a moment, but never in a thousand years?

4. What is it that you will break even when you name it?

5. Alive without breath, as cold as death; never thirsty, ever drinking, all in mail never clinking.

6. Lives without a body, hears without ears, speaks without a mouth, to which the air alone gives birth.

7. I am the black child of a white father; A wingless bird, flying even to the clouds of heaven.
I give birth to tears of mourning in pupils that meet me, and at once on my birth I am dissolved into air.

How'd you all do? Do you know any good riddles?

Ahh, I love a good riddle. Riddle me this, riddle me that.

I got 1, 2, 3, and 6...

Here's the only one I could think of off the top of my head:

I'm tall when I'm young, but short when I'm old... what am I?
