Currently watching An Unexpected Journey, but have been unable to finish it yet because of things. :(

I wrote a review for school if you're interested in wasting a few minutes of your life to read my ludicrously pretentious opinions.
(view spoiler)[ Congratulations to Peter Jackson for creating a great movie (debatably better than LOTR) with a wonderful cast, and a great setting to compliment them.
I settled down several months after “The Hobbit” came out in front of my laptop with absolutely no expectations. Reason? I knew I would rage the same as when I saw “The Lord of the Rings”. I didn't enjoy some of his takes on Tolkien’s world, but now I see “The Hobbit” is a much better interpretation.
*SPOILERS FROM HERE ON OUT*
The beginning was very well done as they took a good amount of time for Bilbo (Ian Holm, I believe) to explain the dwarves' past. It was good to see the dwarves' point of view as the only dwarves' you see in LOTR are Gimli and the fools who show up at Rivendell. Dwarves in epic armor = me cheering in my bedroom. Elijah Wood (Frodo) still stunk up his part again, sadly. It showed the inter-workings between LOTR and The Hobbit though as we see Frodo go off to the woods to read. But, that leaves the question, how did Bilbo write the whole “There and Back Again” book in one day? Oh well…
It then goes to Bilbo in his young age (you haven’t aged a day, Bilbo, my butt). Let me just say that the incoming British actors in our new nerd films are amazing. Recently got into BBC’s Merlin, Doctor Who, and Sherlock series and I am loving it! Martin Freeman is probably the best Bilbo to walk this Earth.
Moving on. Dwarves take a rather lengthy and enjoyable time to introduce themselves. I’m so glad Peter Jackson took his time to build Middle-Earth just as Tolkien did (That’s what he missed out on in LOTR). They sang that epic bass orchestra song (thank you Howard Shore for your amazing contribution) that made me stop and reconsider life itself.
Bilbo then wakes up to find the dwarves and runs to catch up with them. As he was running, Howard Shore melted my heart and I’ll admit, I got a tear in my eye when he said, “I’m going on an adventure!”
They then start their journey. Hurray!
Peter Jackson then took a very interesting take on the orc vs. dwarves thing. He made Azog the Defiler and Thorin have a duel, Thorin wielding his Oakenshield (don’t worry, I first realized that halfway through the movie and felt like an idiot after that). Azog, historically speaking, dies there. Oh, but a twist! He lives! Interesting Jackson. Interesting.
And yes, you nerds that just figured this out, that means Jackson is going to use Azog in the Battle of the Five Armies instead of his son! Again, interesting. An orc with a vengeance to achieve is always good.
Moving on. Troll scene. Anybody but me notice they used some of the dwarves voices as the trolls? Cheapskates. It's the Gimli and Treebeard thing all over again! Anyways, fight goes on and dwarves are captured. Yet another twist; Bilbo talks the company out of this problem instead of Gandalf. Meh. You could do it that way. Gandalf splits the rock in half (yes, thank you), and kills the trolls. They get the awesome swords of Gondolin, props to WETA Workshop for that.
Then a wild Radagast appears. That made me mad. Exceptionally mad. Why can they put Radagast, a character not in The Hobbit, in there, but they can’t put Tom Bombadil in The Lord of the Rings? Cue irritation and nerd rage. Anyways, good actor, hilarious character, very enjoyable. They also sneak in a rabbit sled and more storyline on the developing Mirkwood.
Chasing scene. Elves save dwarves. Meh.
Rivendell. Hugo Weaving mades a killer Mr. Smith but no on the elf thing. Sorry Elrond fans. Oh! Secret meeting! Now before, I lied. I did have some expectations of the movie but this meeting was not one of them. For one, I was dreading that Gandalf and Galadriel might have a thing. Whoo. No kissing. She’s too old for you, buddy. Then Saruman comes! It's really hard to see Chistopher Lee not as a bad guy but he almost convinced me! Then the two lovebirds open a mind chat room and kick out Saruman and Elronds. Wow. Cue cries of LAAAAAAAAME.
More stuff about the dragon and the incoming war Saruman refuses to see. Stuff about maps later and story moves onward.
Then stone giants. I was facepalming as Peter Jackson took this way too literally. The mountains are basically giant Transformers and kill each other for sport. Ugh. No cheering in the bedroom on this one.
Into the mountains and then Bilbo has a really sad moment. Almost cried again. Then, a trap sucks them into the Transformer’s heart and...just kidding. They fall into a pit with goblins crawling everywhere. Bilbo slips away and then slips again, except he falls. Dwarves are then taken to goblin king. Comment #1, nice jugular beard thing. I almost couldn’t concentrate with it moving all over the screen.
Little known fact, the first scene shot for The Hobbit is this upcoming one, Riddles in the Dark. Gollum come and eats the orc that fell with Bilbo and the One Ring falls from his umm...“pants”. Didn’t know those things had pockets. Good way to give Bilbo the ring I guess...don’t touch that, Bilbo. You don’t know where that’s been.
Scenes run at the same time, transitioning to dwarves and then back to Bilbo. Nice for a movie and kind of convenient. Dwarves, with Gandalf’s help, beat up the goblins and run. Cue the facepalm that occurs when the movie turns into a video game trailer.
Continuing. Martin Freeman and Andy Serkis have this amazing synergy that made this my favorite scene made by Peter Jackson of all time. Gollum’s insanity was very well portrayed as well as Bilbo’s uncertainty about Gollum. Bilbo later has a chance to kill Gollum but doesn’t. Well filmed, that part.
Run to the Hills, I mean, forest! They move only to be intercepted by wargs, who look cooler here than in LOTR. Climb trees. Forest starts to burn because of Gandalf (another facepalm, my face is starting to hurt). That little moth/butterfly shows up again. Then it gets a little cheezy. Never mind, a lot. Thorin runs with his stick to kill Azog. Two hits. Azog’s warg hitting Thorin, Thorin hitting the ground. Ugh. Why?! Bilbo saves Thorin. Sigh. That’s one way to do it, I guess.
Eagles fly off with the company and set them on a tall mountain, with a perfect view of Erebdor. Eagles, why do you not speak! Personally, I wanted to see a little John Hurt action. He would make an AMAZING Lord of the Eagles. Then they could've explained why the eagles wouldn't take them farther than they did. That would make all these non-readers of The Hobbit and LOTR stop saying, “Why didn't they simply fly into Mordor with the eagles?” Every time I reply, “One does not simply fly into Mordor” to reduce the amount of nerd rage that might otherwise explode from me. Done raging again.
Bilbo is then accepted into the dwarven company by Thorin. Of course, that will never last with Bilbo running around giving the Arkenstone for free to the elves and men of Dale. Oh well, might as well enjoy it while it lasts.
Overall, a solid 9/10 if not more. Well done!
