I actually think it sounds kind of cool... but I'm not sure how it will work, I think if you came up with a solid outline, and build the world in which you want the story to take place in further detail, you might be able to draw more authors in. I'll be interested to see what you come up with, I'm always down to try new projects and I love the possibilities with collaborations.

I don't want to rain on any parade, but at some point, this concept needs a moderator to design the structure in order to build dramatic questions that carry tension from one chapter to another. If every author's section is self contained, and I don't see how it wouldn't be without continued face-time collaboration, you will end up with a collection of short stories sharing a theme instead of a novel with acts and character arcs.

But...try it. I've been wrong a lot.

Well, Shane, I see your point. But if each section of the city with it's hero base fights and wins at the end of each chapter, you've set up a predictable pattern that could be boring.

But...if you had a section of the city overcome, needing help from the other sections, then you've set up more interesting tension. And you've also set up the need for two to three authors to write a chapter or two together.
