Hi Elaine! Welcome to goodreads and to this group too. :)
Goodreads will help you realize just how many written treasures that are yet to be discovered. And yes, it can change your reading habbit because you can get to discuss the books you're reading with other people. Have fun! :)

Steven Sobotka (stevencsobotka) | 2 comments Hi,
I'm Steve. My debut novel will be released this summer (hopefully this month) w/ a follow-up in progress. I'm polishing a Christmas screenplay and always looking for new ideas. I pay my bills as a tax attorney, but I love reading (don't good stories defy genre?), movies, soccer, blues, hanging out w/ my son and wife. Thanks for the invite K. Pulioff.

Ashley (AshleyLynn91) | 24 comments Hi my name is Ashley! I love books and I love reading. I read almost anything and it is my dream to have my own library someday. I am new to GoodReads and I'm so glad I found it. Being able to discuss my favorites will be great since none of my close friends read.

Ashley (AshleyLynn91) | 24 comments Davi wrote: Ashley what type of library do you dream of owning? A large personal collection or a lending library?

Hi Davi thanks for the welcome. I would love to have my own personal library floor to ceiling bookshelves filled with my favorites. I feel like books are going out because everything is downloaded now days. It's a scary thought so having my own personal collection that I can pass down through the family would be wonderful.

message 556: by Jamie (new)

Jamie Hello everyone,

I'm Jamie. I am a huge bibliophile and my favorite genre is contemporary, realistic fiction. What I'm hoping to gain most from this group is to learn how to analyze literature (like determining how an author uses a certain format and how it works, or how the slightest gesture of a character affects an entire scene) and not only become a more active reader, but also apply it into my own writing.

It's wonderful to meet all of you and I look forward to having awesome discussions regarding literature.

Hi,
I'm Vishal Mudgal from India, working in oil & gas industry in Gulf of Persia for ADMA-OPCO. I like to read anything, from newspaper clippings, advertisements stickers on trains/buses, great reads written by all the great writers. I want to learn Portugese so that I can read the original works of many writers.
I love reading and I guess I'm not a genere based person & I hope from here I'll seek guidance to the vast world of books in which I'm still an infant.

Anthony Farana | 3 comments Hi Everyone,

My name is Anthony Farana and it's a pleasure!
I've been a member of Goodreads for a few years now, but only just started to be more active in the community, not just to shamelessly promote my own writing, but to also partake in reading more than I do and to discover new and exciting authors.
I work a day job in the semiconductor industry and use what spare time I have to write stories/novels of various genres.
Cheers! And thank you for the warm welcome!

What kind of books do you like? There are sites like kebooks.com that curate the Kindle Store's free lists, usually posting links twice a day. It's really easy to end up with more books than you could ever read.

Wendy (wendyneedsbooks) Hello! I just posted my intro in the "Welcome to Modern Good Reads" topic, then realized I probably should have posted it here instead. So here goes.

Hello, thanks so much for letting me join!

I'm an avid reader (and Goodreadser), writer, and stumbled across this intriguing group while researching literary agents. I really enjoyed the Q&A session with agent Seth Fishman and am looking forward to checking out the group. I enjoy dark books, difficult books, books that make me think or that teach me something. I have an affinity for anything related to WWII and any literary war fiction. Also an obsession with spreadsheets and checking TBR books off lists! My recently completed literary novel is a twist on conventional WWII fiction tropes.

I'm looking forward to meeting you!

That Q&A was so informative for me too. My mind wasn't even on searching for an agent but there was a lot of advice there for future reference.

And by the way, welcome and I hope you meet lots of cool friends here. :)

message 571: by Tompopaageo (new)

Tompopaageo Hello there. I've been a member of Goodreads for four years but only recently became more active. My reading habits used to consist of picking up a best seller when I happened to be visiting my local supermarket but since acquiring an ereader last Christmas I can spend hours browsing Goodreads.

I spend a disproportionate amount of money on books but have never begrudged a penny of it and truly appreciate all of the awesome authors out there who share their craft with us.

Looking forward to sharing my love of books with fellow modern goodreaders.

Marc Nash (sulci) | 115 comments Hi there my name is Marc Nash. Discovered your forum via Hope above because like me she is an experimental fiction writing. And though I really don't like the word 'experimental' cos it suggests the writer doesn't know where they're going to end up, I guess that's what I mainly read as well as write. unconventional narrative fiction I guess it is, books like House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski and The Unfortunates by B.S. Johnson which I just finished reading yesterday.

Looking forward to participating with you all

Hello everyone, I'm C.J.

I'm a mother, grandmother, reader, writer, blogger, and author. I live in Florida with my partner, Robert S. Cosmar, who is an author, too. I am also a Vietnam War widow.

I love reading most anything -- from Steven King to Nicholas Sparks.

I love books that make me feel, or think, or wonder, and especially books that touch me deeply.

I've always had a special fondness for children's books, as well. I must have read hundreds of them to my three daughters and now to my eleven grandchildren.

I look forward to getting to know you and I welcome anyone who would like to be friends.

Hugs,
CJ

message 584: by Debra (new)

Debra (debrapurdykong) Hi everyone,

I've been with Goodreads about 4 years now and along with other social networking stuff, it's getting harder to keep track of what I've posted and/or promoted. I don't think I've introduced myself yet, so my name's Debra and I write amateur sleuth mysteries set in Vancouver, BC (and suburbs) that also incorporate humor and romance, depending on the book.

My Alex Bellamy series is self-published; my Casey Holland series is traditionally published, and I like both options!

My 3rd Casey mystery, Beneath the Bleak New Moon, will be released on Sept. 17th, so my publisher's offering 10 advanced review copies here on Goodreads, which you can find at http://www.goodreads.com/giveaway/sho...

I'm trying to involve myself in more discussions here and with other groups, and I also post book reviews and one of my blogs on Goodreads.

Thanks!
Debra

It's a book that's actually based on true events that happened in my family. I wrote it for my dad and it's been a special experience! I would love for you all to check out and give it a review. Owen Jones (owenjones) Hi,

My name is Owen Jones and I write on several topics, for example: Pattaya, Thailand; the supernatural; dog care; and business.

I also write content for my 130 web sites, so, unfortunately, I hardly ever get time to read, although the nearest bookshop is 50 mls away and they have nothing in English anyway, so I write my own books :-)

Regards,
Owen

Sara Gauldin (sebgwrites) | 17 comments Greetings! I am Sara B. Gauldin. I have been a member of Goodreads for a year or two. I joined to find a few good books to read over summer break (I teach second grade). When I began writing my own books, I found an entire new scope of relevance with this site. I published my first novella, To Conspire, (a fast-paced crime drama with elements of romance and higher-level conspiracy) this year. There is a sequel in progress. I am currently putting the finishing touches on my premier, full-length novel, The Corporeal Pull (a story of a love that transcends heaven and earth and explores the pre-existence of the soul and the cause of evil in the world). I am excited about releasing the new novel very soon!
I am interested in many genres. Children’s literature is relevant to my work and my role as a parent, so I stay current. I tend to read fantasy, historical fiction and science fiction, but I don’t consider myself married to a genre in my reading or in my writing. I just appreciate quality literature for its own sake. I look forward to connecting with others who share my interests!

message 591: by Kim (new)

Kim Bussey (KimBussey) | 5 comments I read from every genre I can get my hands on. It depends on my mood or location (vacations at the beach call for light reading). I used to love just spending time in the book store. Unfortunately, when Borders went under my small town was left without a book store. Buying on-line is convenient and easy, but I really miss the smell and atmosphere of a physical store.

message 592: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello everyone,

My name is Christina. I'm more of an introvert (read lurker, lol), but I'm finding this tendency of mine makes it difficult when trying to get my name out there as an author. Lurking isn't really an issue as a reader. ;)

I love to read anything romance, but especially if it has suspense in it. I read a lot of Sandra Brown's novels for years, and I appreciate how talented she is at twisting plots. Lately I've been into new adult fiction. I finally came over to the digital side and started reading ebooks last year. There was no going back after that.

Don't know how much I'll jump into conversations, but I've enjoyed reading the threads in this group so far.

Thanks for having me!

Hi everyone,

I'm Gale and fairly new to Goodreads. I'm still trying to get on the bandwagon with all social media, but as a voracious reader, Goodreads seems to be right up my alley. Thanks for this group, and I sincerely appreciate your recommendations and reviews. I hope to participate as much as possible!

I love reading most types of fiction, depending on my mood, as well as creative nonfiction and nonfiction books related to the mind, brain and personality, insight, mysticism, e.g..

I'm also a writer (like many of you). My doctoral dissertation was on archetypes and personal story, most of my articles have been about women's spirituality, and I have a blog about creativity and inspiration. I'm currently writing a novel based on Greek mythology, and have a fantasy trilogy series sketched out and waiting my completion of the novel. The only thing more fun than writing is reading!

I appreciate all your insights and look forward to getting to know you.

Gale
