Great suggestion thank you!

Hello again Roger, you're on fire! Keep em comin :)
Actually I was just thinking about James Rollins and his books. You've just made it even more intriguing-I just may start reading a book of his immediately.

I may need to look into Paul Kemprecos.
I love these suggestions.

Much appreciated Roger

Scott Andrews | 4 comments Hello Modern Goodreaders, my name is Scott and I like to read and write peculiar stories. I have never found a genre I love enough to devote myself to in either discipline. Therefore I can only describe the kind of books that interest me as thus: compelling,thought-provoking and occasionally guilty of humour.

message 709: by Jonah (new)

Jonah Gibson (aimlessjonah) Hi All,

My name is Jonah. I'm an eclectic reader. For pure recreation my favorite author is Elmore Leonard. I've read almost everything he published. Sorry he passed. The last book I read was Pride and Prejudice, and before that Vanity Fair. At 65, I felt it was time to give those two a tumble. Sorry I waited so long. I like literature, science fiction, spy craft, contemporary crime, humor, an occasional western. I have even read romance. I like a good story with believable characters who engage issues beyond their immediate environs. I write too.

Welcome to MGR! Now I am intrigued re the reference to David Bowie. Is this general, or connected to reading?

message 729: by J. (new)

J. | 22 comments That's a really great question. While neither DB nor a differently-named-clone has shown up in my work (as yet, anyway), his aesthetic from albums like "Outside" and "Low" certainly influenced my work. On the reader side, nonfic books about him are some of the only nonfic books I've ever liked.

message 732: by Jack (last edited Oct 25, 2013 02:57PM) (new)

Jack (anubis_lab) Hi all, my name's Jack and I'm from Virginia. Looks like I am late for this party. Found the group via google looking for good books to read. Your comments have already helped me find a few good ones. I love "good" scifi (and this has been a great year for new books!), and I am trying to learn spanish, so if anyone can recommend children's books originally written in spanish, it would be much appreciated. I'm at a Roald Dahl level right now. And in terms of non-genre fiction, I am always looking (never successfully) for books with a little romance--that aren't genre. Along the lines of the movie almost famous or something like that. Happy to join!

message 733: by Lilian (new)

Lilian (lilianjgardner) Hello every body. Perhaps I'm already in this group, but I'd like to introduce myself, nevertheless, because I do not have an author's profile, and I think no one knows much about me.
My name's Lilian. I live in Italy, in a small town in the Po Delta. There are no English speaking persons in my town and our library and book stores don't have any books in the English language, which makes it difficult to share my writing with anyone close by. There are no (live) writer's groups or workshops anywhere near. My writing genre is romantic fiction and children's stories. I am grateful for the Internet and that I have a desktop PC.
I love writing, reading and connecting to friends via the web. You all keep me company and I regard you as friends although we haven't met.

message 734: by Susan (new)

Susan Speranza (susansperanza) | 5 comments Hi, I just discovered this group; I'm definitely a reader, I'm also a published author. By day I'm a librarian; as you can see, I love books! When not reading, writing or tending the library, I devote myself to breeding and exhibiting Pekingese. I guess one can say that I'm passionate about books and dogs...glad I found this group. I love to recommend and get recommendations for good books. I love to talk dogs and I will see what's happening over at the Authors' Corner.

Rosalie Turner | 4 comments Hi - I'm Rosalie. Now that we're retired my husband (of 50 years in Nov.!) and I divide our time between Angel Fire, NM (in the mountains - it's snowing now) and Birmingham, AL where we have 6 amazing grandchildren. I am a fanatic reader. My favorites are historical fiction and literary fiction. I love book clubs for the discussions and because they make me discover books I might never have read. Fun!

message 736: by Leonardo (new)

Leonardo Mancillas-Martinez | 1 comments Hi guys my name is Leonardo, I'm 17 years old (almost 18) from Toronto, Canada. I obviously love reading. For me a good read deserves a hot coffee with good music.
Favourite readings? Well I read any type of books, because I'm a teenager I'm reading Young-Adult Fiction and also general fiction.

I have a blog were I publish random things, but I also want to write about my favourite books there.

Oh, by the way read in English and Spanish, so I hope this can make better topics of conversation.

Hey Matthew, ow, that was so cool to hear ^.^

Many thanks for taking the time and feedback! :)

I haven't written any Sci-Fi, but I love many Sci-Fi books, movies and series! (I may edit my previous post, it sounds ambiguous!)

What I do write is art books (illustration/portrait and such subjects) and started venturing into Dark Fantasy. But I do have some Sci-Fi ideas for the future! :)

I saw you have several books/interesting titles, are those short stories or longer works? :)

Both, though most are linked short stories. Whiskey Delta is my latest, a foray into zombie fiction that's got several more books coming behind it. But my main love is classic sci-fi, the kind of stuff that really explores the universe beyond us and the human condition within us.
