Rebecca Forster (rebeccaforster) | 36 comments Hi Claire. I'm in Palos Verdes. Both of us are off the freeway grid. Agreed on reviews. Just wish I read faster :)

Claire Fullerton (clairefullerton) | 10 comments Yes, we're off the grid, Rebecca! My idea of complete confusion is driving into Santa Monica, or anywhere beyond! I can see the lights of Palos Verdes twinkling in the distance on clear evenings from my location in Malibu. From here, it looks like its own insular island. Nice to meet you!

Claire Fullerton (clairefullerton) | 10 comments Mary, you live in a gorgeous part of the world! I once lived on the west coast of Ireland and still miss the environment. Nice to meet you here!

Hah, we often sit on the cliffs and look at the glittering lights of Malibu. And agreed - on driving into Santa Monica. About a year ago I had an event at a winery in Malibu and had to drive through Santa Monica - thought I'd lose my mind :)

message 1106: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (diamondheart90) | 1 comments Hi everyone,

My name is Ashley. I am not an author but just a reader! I read regular adult literature. I love the classics like Fitzegerald, Hemingway, and Lee! I also really love historical fiction, dystopians, some romance, and contemporary.

When I do not have my nose in a book you could probably find me watching old movies (love the ones from the 1930's to the late 1960's,) knitting or other crafts, and studying the Russian language!

R.D. Murray | 1 comments My Name Is R. D. Murray

This is very hard to write and a little watered down. I don't want to say everything that happened to me, but when I was in the 3rd grade I was bullied so badly I wanted to kill myself at times.. I think it happened because I was shy, quiet and awkward. I was thrown in the boy’s bathroom by these 3 particular kids who would punch and kick me as hard as they could. I could barely walk as everyday they would abuse me over, and over again. The other kids in school would just laugh at me and no one helped. In fact, those same kids who watched and knew about my abuse would just join in, tease me, and they even threw food at me during lunch. My mom came to school so much to fight for me, but it didn’t help. I had just about given up living in this world. Somehow God saved me and I found writing. It was an outlet to take me away from the pain I was going through in this world. I wanted to create different characters, and a different world just to escape. Writing really saved my life. Now at 42 I just released my first novel called My Dead Blue Caterpillar. I have to say I still am a bit shy so this is hard for me, but I am starting a program to be a spokesperson and sort of a one on one help for kids that are being bullied or have went through the affects of being bullied. I am here because I love writing and reading and hope to meet new people.....

I've written alternate history, and you have my sympathy if you've written any kind of historical fiction, the research can be daunting. But it is worthwhile.

Noel Silvia | 4 comments Good morning, afternoon, or evening, everyone!

I am a recent first-time author and am relatively new to GoodReads.
I love reading books that are creative stylistically (non-linear, broken prose, etc.) and books that resonate long after I have read the last page.

I look forward to meeting fellow book nerds and being a part of this community. Happy reading, everyone!

Eve Gaal (thedesertrocks) | 7 comments Hi Christopher, I read and write escapist fiction. My first novel takes readers to Hawaii, the second to Vegas and my most recent novel tackles the world. I also wrote a short novella that took my character to Panama. After years of horrid vacations, I realized armchair travel is the best.

message 1125: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Korenfeld | 4 comments Hi, I'm Michelle. So happy to be part of this group. My greatest enjoyment is reading and writing. Raising my daughters in a creative home became a personal mission to make education creative. With the contribution of my kids I wrote stories to introduce nature, science, art and environment all interweaved. Envisioning a creative thinking book for kids, I was swept into painting the stories. Yet my art and literature is meant to inspire. Today, not only kids, but also those who wish to nurture the child within. My last read was Fried Greed Tomatoes. I like this kind of books that inspire with a love for life and the feel that any challenge can be overcome. And those do appear in our lives often. Yet humor and creativity give meaning, with which anything can be conquered.

message 1126: by Txetxu (new)

Txetxu Hello, I'm Txetxu. I had a readers block for years but i started reading again a couple of year ago and i'm really enjoying it and realise what i've been missing!

I'm reading a bit of everything but mostly written in 20Th or 21st century, so i guess that to be in a group of modern literature will be a good idea.

I try to read literature from all around the world, but i find myself reading more american authors than any others(Sadly in spanish, because i'm lazy, but i expect to read more in english this year)

My favorite reads lately were Svetlana Alexievich, Krakauer, Neil Gaiman, the Night Watchman, The Haunting of Hill House, the Road, the Plage...

Pleased to be here, happy readings to everyone!

message 1127: by Poppy (new)

Poppy | 1 comments Hello, I'm Poppy.
I work in hospitality: a plush establishment, patronised by more gentle, conservative folk. I work. I walk. I read. I work. I walk. I read.
I don't know just yet what I really wanted to read, I'm just picking books from the small library where I work. I hope to find friends and share thoughts on what I do read.
I'm very new to this: I'm all ears or should I say, "All eyes."

L.C. Tang Hello Everyone,
I am Lincee and I love travel, food and learning. I published my first book and am learning how to navigate this literary landscape. I never thought it would be such an emotional and mental rollercoaster. Anyone else feel this way?

message 1129: by Jeffrey (new)

Jeffrey Marshall (jmarsh17) | 10 comments Hi, Jeffrey Marshall here. Author of three novels in different genres and a retired journalist and poet.
Don't know how to ask this to a broader audience, but has anyone else been supremely disappointed by author giveaways on Goodreads? I've done two, and NO ONE receiving either book has posted a review OR even a rating. Shouldn't it be incumbent on someone who has effectively won a contest to honor that win by giving the author some feedback? Don't think I'll ever do another.

message 1130: by Amanda (new)

Amanda ForryFino | 1 comments It is a pleasure to meet you, I am Amanda Forry/Fino and I am a best-selling author under the name Amanda Forry/Fino, and I thank you for taking the time to read this. Previously, I had published six romance novels under the pen name Sasha Fino. When I became a Christian, I had to take off all the books from the shelves because I could no longer sell them. In my spiritual journey, I have written several new books, including "Living with Cerebral Palsy," a co-written book with 22 other authors with the same condition that has made me one of the best-selling authors on my own. I have published two books: "The Path To The Church And Disabled Adults" and rewritten my autobiography, "A Lifetime Fight - Living with Cerebral Palsy," to make it family-friendly. I am a member of the DC Author's Dinner Group, which includes some of today's most prominent bestselling authors.

S.S. Jung (ssjung) | 2 comments Hi,
I just joined and wanted to introduce myself. I just recently retired and am all into adventuring and exploring now. I read lots of books: SF, ethics, yoga, science, politics, all ebooks format. Where else can I store hundreds of books than electronically and not be a hoarder!

I get lots of good info about ebook creation, tips and tricks about css and html from their examples. There seems to be some but not a lot of standardization in ebooks, epub kindle creation (how to do drop caps, images, audio files). So that must be its strength, the wild west .

Ebooks, epub, pdf, kindle are so open to being really creative. To just have text seems like a bit of a waste of opportunity. I put as much creativity in mine as possible having as much fun as possible. The tools are daunting so I use Sigil now, but I have tried others.

I just published my first book, description in the Author Zone, any comments about me or my book let me know.
Scott

Aileana Moore | 1 comments I like to read all kinds of books, and I've been known to pick some by the title alone. I'm looking for good books to read which make you think in most genres, but I shy away from horror / gore.

message 1137: by Celtiqa (new)

Celtiqa Books (celtiqabooks) | 1 comments Hi all, Celtiqa books is an indie publisher based in Scotland. Personally, I like books which make me think, as well as those which take me into new worlds.

After over 60 years of reading and writing, and volunteering to help other craft their tales, I'm still an optimist.

NB: I'm not a horror fan... I'm busy figuring things out / editing/ encouraging, etc - insights and tips are always welcome.

Nina | 2 comments Hello to everyone,

I’m trying to keep my finances in the black while trying to survive in the big city, whilst I’ve given up on fantasy, sci-fi, rom-com, horror, witches and ghosts. Now, both non-fiction and fictional thrillers come first.

Please be my friend....
