Shiralyn | 1 comments Thanks for the invite Travis. I write fiction and focus on true historical events and induce them into my stories. My work varies from Victorian era right through to modern day. My genre is specific to lesbians but I have a great following of people from all walks of life. I write comedy, romance, erotic, murder mystery and drama.

Missy Jane (missyjane) | 4 comments Hello! I'm Missy Jane, an erotic romance, paranormal romance, and urban fantasy author. I like to read all the genres of romance, historical fiction, horror, fantasy, and sci-fi. Some of my favorite authors are Stephen King, Stephen Lawhead, Clive Barker, Lynsay Sands, Christine Feehan, Mercedes Lackey, and Kerrelyn Sparks. Once I start a series I usually stay pretty loyal to it but there are a couple I just couldn't read anymore. I'm always happy to chat books.

message 155: by Yvonne Richardson (new)

Yvonne Richardson (yradcox) Greetings! My name is Yvonne, a veritable tree-hugging, directionally impaired, woodland Indian descended, English teacher. [Please don't judge me solely on my display of grammar.] I teach eighth grade English in the southern US state of Georgia and live in the neighboring state of South Carolina (but I was born and raised in south Florida-a real world traveler here.) I blog irregularly about way too many different things and read widely including the mental meanderings of my wayward students (all 115 of them). I love to read and require only one quality in what I read: veracity. I also burn inside to write and frequently write many blog entries in my head (a few actually are published). I am a veteran teacher (25 years now) who deeply desires to return to Clemson University to earn a doctorate degree in English and to continue teaching writing to any soul who has a burning message to send out to the universe. Lastly but not leastly, I am a loving and much-beloved wife and mother who fights to tell the world my son's truth about how it is to live with Down Syndrome while struggling to find a meaningful place in this old world.

To all those affected by dyslexia: I hear you! Many of my biological family lives with one form of dyslexia or another. I have a form of directional dyslexia in which my world won't stay fixed when I move and what I see is not always interpreted by my brain in a schema. It is like having a form of visual amnesia.

Thank you, Michelle Browne, for the invite. I am humbly honored and will strive to be a valuable group member.

Pat (goodreadscomncpat) Hi, I'm a retired Pediatrics nurse living in N.C. After retiring I realized I had a whole lot more time to read! I have started writing reviews and love it. I like Romance, suspense, some thrillers, and women's lit. I volunteer at the library, so I get the chance to be around books a lot! Thanks Dianne for inviting me. Looking forward to chatting with you all.

message 158: by Marni (new)

Marni (wonderwmn999) Hi! I'm Marni, nope, it's not short for anything. I read mostly YA but I also like chick lit and adult horror and scifi, sorry but not fantasy. I love paranormal, dystopian, scifi but not big on contemporary romance.

I am a mom of 4, work full time outside of the home, blogger, goodreads mod, facebooker and occasional twitter user. I admin fb page for gr group and and operate fb page to supplement my blog. I lead the Read 4 Review program with the group but don't participate in that program myself. I do R4R's with several blog tours and that keeps me busy.

I love to watch scifi and action flicks. I am a HUGE Doctor Who fan and have been since the mid 80's. I got my family hooked on it.

I love music. I will sing out loud with it but I can't carry a tune to save my life. So no, I am not the next American Idol, but if you are ariund when a song catches my ear just grin and bare it.

I, too, love to sing outloud--Sound Hound is a great app for iphone that displays lyrics (karaoke style ) of whatever is playing in a music list. I have the most fun that way.

Thanks for the invitation. I'm an author and podcaster and a fan of dark, cool, fiction. I like Chuck Palahniuk, Vonnegut, Blake Crouch, neo-noir, lots of suspense in the style of William Goldman, Leonard Cohen and post-apocalyptic fiction. Looking forward to interacting here.

message 162: by J.L. (new)

J.L. | 4 comments Thankyou for the invite. I'm a late developer and a slow learner (my first novel had a gestation period of 40 years, and I've been marketing it as historical fiction for years, until a good friend suggested I try the contemporary fiction genre, when - bingo!)
I love reading, and reviewing books - am gregarious, but love a good thriller, detective story, historical, biography - in fact anything which is well-written.
I've reviewed many books on this site, but they dont seem to appear under my profile since I've uploaded my book.
Am still a little light-headed from the launch three weeks ago, but once I come down to earth, look forward to taking part in this interesting group.

message 163: by Ruth (new)

Ruth Mancini Thanks for the invitation to join you, Dianne. I am an author of women's fiction and I love reading contemporary/women's fiction, though I will consider most genres and have enjoyed everything from the classics to thrillers and am about to start reading my first paranormal romance (Daniella Sacerdoti's "Watch over Me")- as long as it's well written with a subject that gets me thinking, I am likely to enjoy it! Authors I have enjoyed lately vary from Jane Smiley to Elizabeth Gilbert, Nick Hornby and Jojo Moyes. I suppose my writing style is similar to these authors, i.e a fairly easy read but touching on some deep topics and issues. Reading has been my passion all my life, so becoming a writer was a logical next step!

message 164: by R.L. (last edited Apr 06, 2013 09:30AM) (new)

R.L. Herron | 3 comments Thanks for the invitation. I'm Ron, and I've published two books of short stories and one novel, "Reichold Street" which was a delightful surprise when chosen as a Readers Favorite Gold Medal Winner in 2012.

I started writing a long time ago, but it wasn't until after I retired from a long career in advertising, public relations and marketing that I began doing it full time.

I enjoy adventure, sci-fi, fantasy and thrillers ... with a bit of historical fiction now and then. If I had to list my three favorite authors they would be Stephen King, Ray Bradbury and Dean Koontz (although I've left out many who could be there, too, on any given day). I enjoy action movies, classic rock and blues, and I adore my two grandkids.

Glad to be here.

message 165: by Sophia (new)

Sophia Martin | 71 comments Hi all. I'm Sophia, I'm a bookworm and a writer. The main genres I'm reading at the moment are lgbt fantasy and dieselpunk, but I've had phases where all I read was mysteries, or historical fiction, etc. I just get into a genre and live there for a while.

This is such an active group, talking about such interesting stuff. I'm happy to have found it!

message 176: by Marisa (new)

Marisa (marisas1985) I have never done the introduction thing, so sticking with what I see on TV. My name is Marisa and I am addicted to Books :P I pretty well enjoy all genres though I must admit that I do enjoy suspense and crime novels the best (most likely to purchase)that said I have two blogs that I review on, the reviews mirror each other but my main site also has a compilation of journal entries as well. Maybe I like to write too? I have been reading and reviewing since last spring and I started my own sites in the summer. I review most anything and the best part is getting books for free to support my habit! I have two children who are often found with a book as well. My son is 8 and is currently reading the LOTR boxed set. He finished The Hobbit before the movie came out. My daughter tends to read books more along the line of Goosebumps but they can be fun and a bit spooky! http://hidethematches.com http://facebook.com/HideTheMatches ~Marisa~

Mina De Caro (Mina's Bookshelf) (minadecaro) | 6 comments Hi everybody! Thank you for inviting to join the group. My name is Mina. I am a book review blogger and entertainment columnist for a women magazine. My love affair with literature started way back in my high-school days: always been a fan of Bronte sisters, Austen, Poe, Dickens, Conrad, Henry James. Those masters shaped my reading taste. Fiction is my cup of tea, either literary or commercial in a variety of genres and subgenres- historical, contemporary, suspense, romance. To meet the demands of my magazine's readers, I frequently cover women's fiction and women's world related non-fiction books.

Thrillers and biographies are my genre.
Thanks for the invite Travis...

message 196: by Christopher (new)

Christopher | 1 comments I don't understand how groups work on Goodreads, so I thought I'd join this one after the invitation. I wear two hats. One is as a professor of English at Santa Monica College where my goal is to find contemporary novels that nonreaders might love, which will open their eyes to reading. I've had much success with that using such novels at "Water for Elephants," "The Art of Racing in the Rain," "The Lovely Bones," "The Kite Runner," and many more. I usually offer two new books each semester and I created a list on Amazon of the most successful ones.

My other hat is as an author, and my two short story collections and two novels have done well for themselves. My new novel, my first thriller, "Blood Drama" comes out in June, and there's a Goodreads Giveaway for five advanced reading copies right now.

I'm originally from Minnesota and live in Los Angeles.

message 197: by Alisa (new)

Alisa Thanx for the invite Travis. My name is Alisa & I think I'm in the minority here. I just read....no writing. For many years I just read mysteries/thrillers but I've gotten in to UF/PNR also over the last few years. I moderate a UF/PNR group so most of my time lately is reading that genre. I also moderate a cooking related group here on GR & I love, love, love cooking, baking, gardening & all other things related. Glad to be here.

message 198: by Selena (new)

Selena Robins (selenarobinsauthor) | 21 comments Thank you for the invitation, Dianne Harman.

My name is Selena and I'm a book addict, and have taken money from my shoe and chocolate fund to supplement my reading addiction. I don't need a 12 step program, though, it probably wouldn't work anyway and really, who would want a cure?

Like everyone else here I'm an avid reader, love romance, suspense, mystery, basically I just love a great story with characters I either love, or love to hate. :)

I also love reading non-fiction crime books, especially about the mob. The therapist is still out on why I have a fascination with the mob, it all started when I pinched my older sister's copy of The Godfather and got hooked on Mario Puzo's novels. I was eight years old at the time...well, I also did love Anne of Green Gables, but I think if she had a mafia connection it would have made it that much more interesting.

I'm an author of contemporary romance novels, and I also write children's books under a different pen name.

If you read my long introduction, I thank you, if you gave up halfway, I really don't blame you, it is kind of long winded, isn't it? Of course you can't answer, since you stopped half way. :)

Looking forward to chatting when I have time.

message 200: by Drako (new)

Drako | 91 comments totally haven't posted here yet. My bad, suppose I'll get to it.

I'm Drako. I'm an avid reader of anything paranormal, fantasy, science fiction, and romance. I will occasionally read Young Adult books because sometimes they're just awesome. As long as the story is good, I'll read it.

I do a lot of reviews. I try to review whatever I read now, and I generally post reviews everywhere the book is available i.e barnes and noble, amazon, smashwords, etc. I also post reviews on my blog, which helps spread the review to my facebook fan page and twitter followers.

I'm an author. My genres include paranormal/fantasy romance, and I also delve into LGBT romance as well. I don't believe in limiting sexuality in any of my writing so the characters are what they are.

I have a lot of new favorite authors thanks to connecting through Facebook, Twitter, and Goodreads. So in addition to my all time favorite Anne Rice, I have some new favorites in Sarah Luddington, Luke Romyn, and the guy that invited me here, Travis Luedke. And I'm an addict so I'm always looking for new favorites
