Stephanie (StephsBookRetreat) | 3 comments Hi everyone. {waves}

I'm Stephanie, I'm a stay at home mom and wife, baker, child wrangler, book blogger, sheep & goat morning feeder (lol), aspiring writer (after both my boys are in school full-time). I read mostly romance (paranormal), romance mysteries, thrillers, and anything else that gets sent my way via authors, ARRs, ARCs and Beta reads.

If ya wanna know anything else, please ask.

Hello, all. Thank you so much for your introductions. It's an honor to meet you all. Sorry I can't respond to every post, but that would make the thread Extremely long. I'd love to hear about what you're all time favorite single book is, so I've put a thread in each reading category for you to tell me. I'm putting each of your best of the best recommendations on our group bookshelves, and will use those to derive our reading challenges. Please feel free to let us know in those threads, titled "Readers Recommend...," and I'll shelve them daily. Thanks again so much for being a part of our group, and for letting everyone know what your reading tastes and preferences are. I'd love for you all to comment on any thread that interests you. If you haven't, feel free to friend me and all our moderators. We like friends. Take care, and I look forward to seeing you all around the group,

Chris Shields,

Thanks for the invite!

I'm Wanda Paryla, author of Someday Always Comes. I can't limit my self to one genre of writing, so I won't claim anything specific here. I love to read, write, eat and walk. That's about it! LOL.

Cathy | 2 comments My name is Cathy Adams, and I am most interested in southern literature, especially that with a Flannery O'Connor twist to it. Having said that, I must confess that I am reading Game of Thrones right now. (It's entertaining.) One of the reasons I am getting involved in Goodreads is because I need to become more knowledgeable about the new literary fiction. I'd like to hear about authors who are up and coming so I can support them by buying a book or two.

Janice Ross | 14 comments I love to read books with strong characters and captivating plots.

message 310: by Barbie (new)

Barbie Herrera (barbiesway) | 4 comments Hi,
I'm Barbie and write under the pen name Martha Emms. I love to read many genres: Ken Follett, Clive Cussler, Robyn Carr, Lawrence Sanders, Debbie Macomber, Nora Roberts, Susan Mallery, Sherryl Woods, Tom Clancy, and Stephen King.
I spent most of my career as a tech writer in the aerospace industry but I have done many jobs, from modeling when I was young to working in a health food store :)
I enjoy adventure, comedy, and romance movies. On TV, I especially enjoy watching Psych, Criminal Minds, NCIS, Army Wives, 2 Broke Girls, and Castle. But I admit to listening more than actually watching most TV shows. I enjoy gardening and my family. I am still pretty new to blogging, but I am really enjoying meeting the many wonderful authors I interview.
Special thanks shouted out to Chris for all the opportunities you make available to all of us :)

My name is Su Williams, author of YA paranormal fiction, reader of most anything YA and some adultish kinda stuff. Love vampires, werewolves and zombies, oh my. Kinda in a zombie kick right now. Fav authors are Marissa Meyer, Maggie Stiefvater, Lisa McMann, Neal Schusterman. Will follow the rules and post info on the Author's Corner.
Thanks again,

Marcia Carrington | 1 comments Thank you very much for the invitation to the group Travis, and a big hello to everyone. My name is Marcia Carrington, and I'm an author of YA romance, humor and drama.
I like to read a little of everything, from romance, suspense, humor, paranormal, inspirational, and sometimes horror, if it leans more on shocks than gore.
I especially like cinema from the 1930s to 1970s, both US and international films, but Columbia, Fox and MGM films of these eras are closest to my heart. Favorite movie stars are Susan Hayward, Paulette Goddard, William Holden, Hedy Lamarr, Barbara Stanwyck...just for starters. Thank you again, and hope to speak with everyone soon.

Larry Kollar (lkollar) | 20 comments Got the invite to join, so here I am. I'm Larry Kollar, and I read (and write) a number of genres. I also write technical documentation for my dayjob, and some of that turned out to be fiction as well. :-P One of my (intentionally) fictional stories has had some modest success, which makes me happy (and mixed reviews, which has taught me how to deal with such things).

At home, I help raise Mason, the World's Cutest Grandkid, support way too many in-laws who live way too close, and try to grab a little writing and blogging time in the middle.

I've embraced the eBook revolution in the three years since I won a Kindle at a Christmas party at the dayjob. I've bought plenty of books since then, but the only paper ones I've received as gifts. It probably helps that the nearest bookstore is 25 miles from the house.

I'm looking forward to interacting with people here!

message 316: by Renee (new)

Renee Rearden (reneerearden) | 15 comments Hello,

I'm Renee, an official court reporter by day and a paranormal romance/urban fantasy author by night. I work in a courtroom every day, and yes, real life is stranger than fiction. That being said, I love to read. Paranormal is my favorite genre. Fantasy, YA and horror next. (Can't do contemporary or mystery...to much like my day job and I need the escapism!)

I love movies and television series, NatGeo, science, history and the Discovery channel. I've published two paranormal romance/urban fantasy books in my Tueri Fated Souls series. Working on the third now.

Robots don't bother me, but the cyborg/computer-human integrated creations creep me out. It's hard enough distinguishing the bad guys, I don't want to have to discern human/cyborg species as well!

message 317: by Betsy (new)

Betsy Ashton | 6 comments Hi all,

I'm a reader, writer and promoter of literacy. I read eclectically. Mostly thrillers, suspense, women's contemporary fiction and mysteries. I love good memoirs and other non-fiction. I write women's fiction and have recently published the first book in a series.

I am the president of the Virginia Writers Club, a 95-year group of writers and readers dedicated to literacy and the craft of writing. I blog about writing, politics, books I've read and loved. Just about anything that comes to mind.

I look forward to meeting more of you in the various discussion treads.

Maureen Fisher (maureenfisher) | 15 comments Hi all, I'm excited to be here. This is my first foray into Goodreads. I read romance, mystery, and pretty much else with a good plot and great characters. I write romantic suspense that tickles the funny bone. Strangely enough, I find I have less time to read than I before, so I'm always on the lookout for recommendations of good books.

David | 1 comments Hi guys,

Glad to be joining the group. I like to read all kinds of books, fiction mainly but some non-fiction as well. To be honest, I'm kind of all over the place. I have long read literary fiction (John Irving, Richard Russo, Jennifer Egan, etc.) but also love YA (John Green is my favorite). I have never taken the time to list all the books I've read in my Goodreads page but I keep telling myself I should since it looks like I've only read about 30 books in my life. I also like to write but I will save all that for the author part of this group. Happy to get involved and participate in the group!

William Harlan (raunwynn) Hi everybody, I'm Billy.
I received an invitation to join this group a while ago and I am just now starting to read through the topics and figure this one out.
Goodreads is HUGE!

Edit - Does anyone have a link to a good topic on general Goodreads etiquette?
I read something about there being a cap on your friend's list and have seen warnings about not being friends with people unless they're "really your friend."
It's a little confusing.
I'm inclined to say "Yeah, sure! Let's be friends!" and click the button, but my only experience with stuff like that is Facebook.

Thanks!

Rebecca Forster (rebeccaforster) | 36 comments Hi Billy, I'm with you. I'm a click on friends. I always look at who they are when they invite me. Sometimes it's authors, sometimes readers. I am not terribly adept at Goodreads. I'm getting there but I don't find it very intuitive. So, guess we're on the 'same page'. Sorry, couldn't resist.

Crimson Rose (crimsonroselove) | 20 comments Hello,
My name is Jessica Rister. I help authors by reading their material and posting reviews. Right now my schedule has been pretty tight with reading and writing. I also go to school for Creative Writing. I read mostly fantasy and horror or anything in relation to them. I also write those genres.

message 349: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Forster (rebeccaforster) | 36 comments Hi Jessica, You sure have a full plate. I write full time and teach now and again at UCLA Writers Program. I do thrillers, legal thrillers now moving into action adventure. One of my favorites, though, is Before Her Eyes where I combined fantasy with a police procedural. Was so much fun to write. Good luck with all you're doing. Don't know when you find time to read.

message 350: by Crimson (new)

Crimson Rose (crimsonroselove) | 20 comments Rebecca,
I read mainly at night or during the day, while my daughter watches her Elmo. I like mixing reality with the fantasy world, but keeping magic in the reality world as well. That way the characters are able to utilize both modern technology and still be able hold their own in the fantasy world. I am in search of books like that as well. Do you know of any? Google search wasn't all that helpful.
