Question #120: Biographies

Well, the best Biography I've read recently was The Glass Castle. Hopefully it will come up as a group read soon because it's one of those rare books that I think everyone could enjoy.
I read a couple biographies every year, probably. I'd say and extraordinary life makes one stand out. I think the autobiographies of humorous people with messed up childhoods are my favourite - if I can find the common ground between the ones I like.

I don't read a lot of biographies. In fact, I can probably count on one hand the number of biographies I have read and still have fingers left over.
This Friday's question: Do you read biographies? What one biography would you recommend to other readers? What makes that biography stand out?
