Additionally, some authors will back certain books saying they highly recommend them. Case in point Cassandra Clare who made several recommendations to Barnes & Nobles. Yet other authors like Jennifer Estep regularly writes reviews for books she reads on Goodreads. If authors recommend the books, do you tend to read them?

Most of the time I like the books authors recommend, but after reading two of the books Ms. Clare recommended I won't be using her as a reading guide again any time soon. The books were okay, but nothing I'd recommend. I found out at the end of the two audio books recordings that she was actually good with the authors. After listening to the final pages of the books I already suspected. On the other hand, I probably wound't have found the Hunger Games if Stephenie Meyer hadn't recommended it on her website.

So when an author recommends, do you listen? Have you had any good or bad experiences in doing so?

Ellen (ellenann) | 46 comments Only once so far -Nalini Singh comment on Dragon Bound by Thea Harrison. So I decided to check it out and I am glad that I did cause I fell in love with the series.

Lauren (laurenjberman) Not really. If an author recommends a book, I just assume they are friends with the author and are promoting if for this reason. If I do read a book recommended by one of my favorite authors it is usually because it interests me already.

Vic (vicaet) | 14 comments I will at least look up the book on goodReads. Then, if it sounds like something I'd like and friends have good ratings, I'll most likely give it a try. I'd don't auto-buy a book based on another author's rec even if the author giving the recommendation is an auto-buy.

Issa (goddess_issa) Nope. Only because they write a book I like doesn't mean their reading tastes match mine. Plus I'm wary they are using their fanbase to promote their friends' books. So I ignore them for the most part.

You know we're seeing more and more of that--one author putting their recommendation on the cover of another author. Also less recommendations from bloggers. I find that interesting, because what everyone's saying here author's opinions don't mean much. I used to think they were only promoting their publisher's or friend's books, but sometimes they aren't. You just never know.

Sandra J Weaver (sandraweaver) | 147 comments A favorite author's name on a blurb on a cover may well catch my attention, but it doesn't influence me in terms of a purchase. However, the fact that my attention was caught long enough to check out the book means that the blurb has done its work and helped the book stand out a little in the racks of books available.
