Cindy | 728 comments Oh my gosh..I can't either!!!

Laurie (barksbooks) (barklesswagmore) | 1471 comments You're not messed up. That's important stuff to know! I made my (now) husband take me to see Hellraiser on our first date. He had never seen a horror movie before (hard to believe but true), was white as a ghost when we left and didn't speak for quite awhile. It's important to know these things beforehand ;) It worked out for us but he could have easily left screaming, never to be heard from again.

Overrated! :)

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) I kinda do think that's messed up.

Someone who could a really important, vital, caring person in your life and you're going to put obstacles in the way of it? I thought one of the catchphrases of today was for everyone to 'embrace differences'?

Opposites attract. Why date someone with exactly the same tastes as you already have?

message 19: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany I'm kind of torn here. As someone who is also single, I know that it is a definite deal breaker when a guy doesn't read a whole lot. However, I kind of like dating guys who don't read exactly what I read because I enjoy how they challenge me to read other things. Some of the best non-horror novels I've read were suggested by ex-boyfriends. Still, I don't think I could ever date someone who actively belittled the horror genre. Even if he doesn't care for one particular author you love, you might still have a lot of other things in common.

message 20: by Μιχάλης (new)

Μιχάλης (nihilio) yes, you are. If it comes to reading horror and your date is not freaked out, then he/she is a keeper

That's a pretty fair approach.

Did he actually actively belittled the horror genre? I must have missed that. If he was conversing with me, I'd ask him on what grounds he belittles horror; because that in itself can make a difference. It all depends on his attitude. If he rated/ranked horror compared to other literature, from a scholastic viewpoint--I might find some merit in his assertion; but if he said something like, 'I hate horror because I'm much more into superhero fiction' then I would probably have little respect for his view.

Rachel | 1434 comments When I was single I was always asking dates if they read, but not caring about the genres. I think it has to do with wondering if the other person will be interested in you talking about your hobbies. My boyfriend reads more literary fiction than I do but enjoys all types of movies and isn't a huge snob about genre fiction. I read more than he does but he does enjoy reading, just like he plays more video games than I do, but we both enjoy playing video games and talking about them.

message 23: by Char (new)

Char | 17459 comments My husband doesn't read at all, other than Popular Science, the newspaper and rarely, Sports Illustrated.
We've been married for 28 years.
I sometimes wish he read more, but then I realize I love him just as he is. :)
Without him I probably would never get my nose out of books.

message 24: by Gatorman (new)

Gatorman | 8320 comments My wife reads but not horror. I tried to get her to read Seed and she couldn't finish it. She hates scary and creepy. It's never been an issue. We each have our own Nooks and read what we like.
