Hi all,

I have been reading book one for a while now and it seems to me very slow I know so many have read this and thing ts great and un like a large number I have not seen the TV series.

What I'm asking is does this get going further in as I'm wondering if i might be wasting my time on it?

it does get going but the novels only get larger from here out, so if you don't like lengthy books with slow builds then i don't know how you'll get through the rest of the series, especially books 4 and 5.

the second half does have more to it than the first, and dany's chapters are pretty dull so you just have to muscle through them. books 2 and 3 are excellent in my opinion, but again very long as well with at least double (even triple) the amount of characters.

Josh dany's chapters in books 2 and 3 are much better, much more interesting. they are also the books with the least number of chapters (5 in book 2, 6 in ...more

Just keep going. It does build up, it's just there are so many characters you have to get your teeth into the world he creates first before anything can go.

The subsequent books are easier to read because you can just get on with it, rather than having to read through scene-setting.

I agree with both previous posters. There is a lot more substance in the later part of this book - but the books are most slow build than anything else. I do think it is worth the effort though!

I agree that this book starts almost painfully slowly, I myself had to start reading it three times before actually deciding to follow through, but after a while the plot and characters start getting to you, and it is definitely worth reading through.

Hi guys thank you for your insight, I guess I will have to give it a good go and fingers crossed I get into it :-)

This book has a slow, almost glacial, pace. It also doesn't help that he chose to go with switching story threads every chapter. Just as a chapter has a chance to pick up any momentum ...wham, you're elsewhere.

It does pick up after about 150 pages. Though this is a flaw I find many contemporary novels (fantasy & otherwise) share.

by the end of book two it's all come to nought. there is far better and far less turgid books to read
