Kate (kaitlins16) Post you thoughts about the books from any of our reading challenges in this thread? (Though, if it's for the Themed challenge, please leave your reviews on the submission threads.

Having trouble with figuring out what to write? Here are some basic one that you could get your thought process going.

What are your thoughts on the books that you have read for the pick it for me challenge? What is your rating? How were the characters? How about the writing style? Did the book move quickly or slowly for you; did it suck you in or were you disappointed? Would you recommend it to other people in the group.

Rora (ffyreflyy) | 64 comments Alright, I had to read The Different Girl by Gordon Dahlquist for another group, so I threw it into my pick-for-me pile. I'm pretty sure a lot of you haven't read this one yet, because it only came out this year, but I think you should definitely check it out. Thanks for picking it!

Here's my review:

The Different Girl The Different Girl by Gordon Dahlquist

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a good book. Its also a different book. Its a slow, thinking, methodical book. Don't get me wrong, its not overly heavy or weighed down with description or flowery language. quite the opposite. It is simple and precise, because your narrator is precise. And as is the case with all first person point of view tales, you only know what she knows. This can be a bit frustrating at times, but it is also what makes the story. Because how do you know something is worth mentioning until it is? How do you know what is not normal until its not?

Kate (kaitlins16) I'm glad you liked Pandemonium, though I'm not going to read your review until I read it.

By the way, I would recommend using a (view spoiler) to put the spoilers in it.

Kate (kaitlins16) Sadly, I have yet to finish Touched (Sense Thieves, #1) by Corrine Jackson . I'm about seventy percent through it. It's not turning out to be maybe a three star book.

Destany | 122 comments I finished my book City of Bones

Review:5stars

I loved the way the book starts of with action and fills in the back stories later. I hate when a story stands bc u have to know everyone's story at once but that didn't happen it was fast from the start. I thought Jaces and Clarys relationship was amazing to watch unfold he is soo unwilling to love anyone but Clary breaks through. At first I really didn't like Alec I couldn't figure out his problem with Clary but in the end I could understand why. I loved Isabel she was perfectly happy in her body and could use it to her advantage she's is bad***. My fav. Character by far was Jace though he was cocky and sarcastic but it keep the book interesting and I always thought it was hilarious. [SPOILER ALERT] it absolutely killed me when I found out they were brother and sister though Clary had finally gotta through Jaces then she finds out they will never be together that way because he is her lost brother!!!!!!

Kate (kaitlins16) This is my Goodreads review for Touched (Sense Thieves, #1) by Corrine Jackson , which I finally finished a little while ago.

Here it is:

I would say this book is a strong three star one. Most of what I liked was the ending parts. There was just more interesting and less confusing stuff going on towards the end.

Although, Remy wouldn't be one of my favorite heroines, she is still a strong character. When faced with all the dangers that occurred in the book, she stopped and thought things out and made logical decisions. She was unselfish and made sacrifices for those she loved. She grew and eventually let herself show vulnerability, something she had never done in years.

The romance was a bit weird at the beginning. Sometimes, there was conflict that didn't make much sense as to why it was so, like when Asher and Remy would stop speaking to each other or would be angry with each other. When that happened, it didn't make a lot of sense to me, since those instances happened a few times and they were pretty quick. When the two finally became a couple, it was much better. It's not one of my favorite couples, but they were still a pretty good one.

Sometimes, the whole Healer and Protector thing confused me. It was mainly in the beginning, when it was being explained, and it took me a long time to get what exactly Remy could do and what Asher and other protectors could do.

Overall, I did like the book (hence the three star rating), but it didn't wow me enough to give it even three and a half stars.

ErikΔ | 82 comments I finished Divergent (Divergent, #1) by Veronica Roth yesterday and I really really <3ed it! Once again, thanks for recommending it Christine and Elizabeth!!

I LOVED everything about the book. It's characters were amazing. Tris is officially my new heroine role model :) The five faction idea is really creative and I think that they all taught me important lessons (especially Dauntless)

It wasn't like a problem or anything but when I thought I just started reading the book, I look at my page number and find that I'm almost done! It was so good I guess I couldn't stop reading!!
This is one of the books that when you start reading, it's so interesting that you can't stop reading.

I've been hearing that its a great book but I kept putting it off and now I regret it.
I recommend it to everyone who loves a good book (which is practically to all you goodreaders)
5 STARS!!!
Can't wait to read Insurgent!!

Kate (kaitlins16) For my reading challenge, I'm reading eight books. Here was the first book I finished

Breathe (Sea Breeze, #1) by Abbi Glines by Abbi Glines
Date finished: 6/2
My Rating: 2.5 stars
My Review:

I read both Because of Low and While it Lasts before this book (and I absolutely fell in love with both of them), so I was looking forward to finally getting to the first book in the series (I don't like going out of order). Well . . . it looks like I wasn't missing much. Breathe was an ok book that I liked enough to rate it three stars no Goodreads.

I'm usually drawn to books where the character is going through a true hardship, so naturally I liked where the story was heading when I read the beginning. After awhile, though, it just turned into a series of cheesy moments one moment after the next. There was a lot of repetition and a lot grammar/spelling issues (in the paperbook I had).

Despite that, I did find Jax and Sadie's journey to be sweet, and I was interested enough in it to finish it basically in one day. It was quick and light for the most part (everybody seemed to be too chipper at most times to be convincing), but it wasn't anything too special.

message 13: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth kaitlin have you read Fallen to far I really liked it and the second one too

message 14: by Kate (new)

Kate (kaitlins16) Not yet, but I expect I'll be reading it one day.

message 15: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Abbi put a twist I haven't seen in her books yet in any of them and I think I have read all of them now

message 16: by Cometa (new)

Cometa (jasminum) I have just finished Spells (Wings, #2) by Aprilynne Pike by Aprilynne Pike, the first book for Summer Reading Challenge, and I don't know what rating to give it. Maybe 3, or 2.5 stars... I loved the first book much better! It was a different magical fairytale about the unusual girl, like some cartoons that I loved when I was a child. But this book is only about Lorel and her relationships with two boys - she can't choose one of them! Of course, there was some action, but mostly romance, romance and romance... It is boring for me... It is too naive story for me, maybe I am already adult for it. And I don't want to read the other parts.

Rating: 5 STARS

Thoughts: It was amazing, beautiful, hilarious and so sad. I love the characters and their quirks and this book is just perfect. It made me laugh one minute and the next second I was sobbing. I was sitting waiting for the bus and then (view spoiler)

This book is just. I mean. It's just.

Cassie (cannefrye) | 19 comments The other day, I finished Days of Blood & Starlight (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #2) by Laini Taylor :

Picked by: ATHENA

Rating: 4.5 Stars

Mini-Review: So I kind of sorta didn't like Daughter of Smoke and Bone. Sue me. I found the flashbacks a little excessive, and the romance felt like instalove to me. But I loved Laini's writing, I loved Karou, and I loved and the world Laini created, so I wanted to give the sequel a try, since I knew it would deal more with the war and less the romance. I'm SO GLAD I gave this book a chance, because it is gorgeous and heartbreaking. I loved it, and I will definitely be picking up the third book. My one complaint? Pacing and the fact that Karou wasn't as kick-butt in this book. Of course, Karou went through a lot in the first book, and this greatly affects Karou in Days of Blood and Starlight. So it's understandable. I just miss the old, whimsical and fiery Karou. Hoping to see her "come back" in the final installment of this trilogy. Thank you Athena for picking this book!
