Cari | 51 comments I thought I would start a new thread for April, so that our old thread doesn't go on for miles and miles :-)

So lately I've had very little time to read-read, although I have an audiobook going (almost done with the Kate White one I mentioned before). The baby isn't sleeping too great, so by the time he goes to bed, I'm exhausted. I am dying to READ a good book! I started Always Watching; I'm also halfway through The No-Cry Sleep Solution by Elizabeth Pantley (ha-ha, it's not working yet because I haven't had time to read it!)

I will probably have to put those two aside, however, since I have Reconstructing Amelia by Kimberly McCreight from the library and it'll be due back before those others. This book's being hailed as the new Gone Girl.

So will someone come watch my kid for a little while so I can get caught up? :-)

Alanna | 16 comments Cari - I saw my reading time nosedive when I had my kids too...

Mine are 7 and 4 now and I think I am just starting to recover... (ugh... i hope that is not a depressing thing to say! seriously the time will fly) but still I read in about 10 minute increments until bedtime and then I usually get 30mins or so before I zonk out.

I'll be curious about reconstructing amelia - I haven't heard about it yet other than here.

I finished Last Night at the Lobster. It is older book but I just got around to it. What a great little book. I feel like so many books need a good stiff edit nowadays and this one was so wonderfully tight. It's a slim little book. I just loved it.

I have been listening to Bitter is the New Black on audio but I think I am about to give up. It was recommended to me by a friend but I don't know... it's just not my thing I think maybe a little too bitter for me?

I started overlappingly (not a word - i know) listening to A Little Bit Wicked: Life, Love, and Faith in Stages which is Kristen Chenowith's memoir... I don't know her really well but it is a nice frothy memoir - she reads it and I like her reading style.. she is pretty funny and surprisingly candid.

In print I have started reading Wolf Hall. A hundred years ago when I was in college I majored in Tudor History... so EVERYONE has been telling me I need to read this book for like 3 (4?) years... I started it... I don't know.. it's not taking off very fast... i think I'm in a fast food mood for reading lately definitely seeking fast paced plots... I'm going to keep going for a few days but I may shelve it and try something else if it doesn't pick up the pace...

Cari - Would it be too weird to hire a babysitter so we could read? lol.

Alanna - mmm, fast food. Wait, we're talking about books right? lol. I haven't read any of those and I think I will take a look at Last Night at the Lobster.

Right now, I am reading The Primal Blueprint. It's basically Paleo diet but a little different.

I am halfway through a Wrinkle in Time but as with Cari, I am trying to read before bed when I am half asleep and I am a little out of it.

Also reading the fan fiction eBook James Potter and the Hall Elders Crossing which is the story of Harry Potter's sons first year at Hogwarts. It's actually pretty good so far!

Listening to the final book in the Bartimaeus trilogy - Ptolemy's Gate. I will be so sad when this is over. :(

Alison (amdmccarty) | 6 comments Beth! There is a fourth book in the trilogy! I didn't like it as much as the others, but if you're not yet ready to leave Bartimaeus behind, you can hang out with him and Simon Jones (but not Nathaniel) some more in The Ring of Solomon.

WHAAAAAAA???? I think I am going to faint. Or cry. So happy!

Cari | 51 comments So I just finished Reconstructing Amelia. I must say I was a little disappointed, since EW said it was the next Gone Girl and it most definitely was not. I did enjoy it, but there were a lot of flaws, so I was surprised that it got such a great rating. Back to Chevy Stevens tonight, if my baby will let me read anything before bed!

Cari | 51 comments P.S. I finished the book on my lunch break. New way to squeeze some reading in!

Guess what I just got???? The audiobook Clockwork Princess!! As soon as bartimaeus is finished I know what I'm listening too!!!!

message 9: by Alanna (new)

Alanna | 16 comments That's disappointing about Reconstructing Amelia. If I were the author I think I would have been so worried when they started publicizing it as the next Gone Girl... that's a really tough expectation to set!

Since I live in the Boston area with all the stuff that has been happening here I have found my attention span has just crashed and burned.

I officially put aside Wolf Hall. I picked up Dark Lord: The Early Years which is pretty funny. It even has pictures so well that makes it go faster.

I finished listening to Girls in White Dresses which I really loved. I think it was just the right book at the right time. A book about friends going through their 20s and 30s but smartly written.

I have started and stopped a million audio books since. I get them from Overdrive so my choices are limited. I really want something fluffy that doesn't deal with heavy subjects. Anyone have any good audio recs like that?

PrimalAwakening | 9 comments Hi everyone!

Awesome! What do you think of Mitch Albom's book? and What is The Green Arrow about?

PrimalAwakening | 9 comments I found The Time Keeper to be a sweet fable which I read in a few hours. The chapters were short in manageable parts and the book overall wasn't too long which made it a great read for me.I also liked the Alchemist by Paulo Coelho so it was similar to that and just as memorable.
The Green Arrow himself is the main character (from the DC Comics Franchise) and being a superhero he has died and come back to life where he's on a quest to hunt down his most cherished valuables he left behind with his adopted son Arsenal who is a similar character to him and also gets a chance to see his ex Dinah (another super hero from the Justice Society of America) and his real son (Green Arrow 2) in this volume. The best part is it's written by Brad Meltzer who has written many interesting books to date.
