Mary Fan (astralcolt) | 1 comments Genres are hard. I've been calling my book, Artificial Absolutes, because it takes place in the distant future and features starships and the like, even though it's somewhat different from other books with the "space opera" label. For one thing, it's about an ordinary girl who gets thrown into a dangerous situation rather than a space captain trying to save the world. Then a friend of mine, who's a cyberpunk author, told me that it could count as cyberpunk as well, since hackers, computers, and virtual worlds feature are pretty heavily featured in the plot. I've also been told it counts as New Adult because the main girl is in her early twenties and grapples with issues most twenty-somethings contend with... finding herself in the real world after college, dealing with a quarter life crisis, and the like.

Well, whatever the subgenre, that was my long winded introduction to my sci-fi novel, Artificial Absolutes :-) After her brother is framed for murder, Jane Colt races across the galaxy to find the real killer before the authorities catch up. With little more than a cocky attitude, she finds herself facing dangerous thugs and uncovering nefarious secrets about artificial intelligence.
