D.H. Nevins (dhnevins) | 81 comments This thread is for us to list as many different fantasy sub-genres as we can. However, to make it a little more fun and challenging, I've added a few rules.

Please read before you post:

1. If a sub-genre has already been listed in this thread, you need to list a different sub-genre. No doubling up.
2. You can only list a sub-genre if you have read a book from that sub-genre (hey, that's what will start to make this challenging!)
3. When you list the sub-genre, give us a book example from that sub-genre that you have read. If you can put up a picture of the book cover, that would be awesome.
4. Authors, we love you and you are most welcome to post, but you must post in this thread as readers, not writers. You can't tell us about your own book, but we would love to hear about some sub-genres you have been reading.
5. Discussion is definitely welcome. There might be some debate as to whether a particular sub-genre actually falls under the fantasy genre or not. I love a healthy discussion! However, if you are disagreeing with someone, ensure your tone is polite and respectful.

Have fun and enjoy the challenge! Let's see how many different sub-genres and examples we can generate.

Brooke (brookebestbooks) Question: Is epic and urban fantasy the same as high and low? If not:
The Golden Compass series bounces between both. (Is there a subcategory for a book/series that has high and low fantasy in it?)
