Connecting Readers and Writers discussion

I'll soon be putting out a new edition of a novel, with a cover combining the original art and the design from the sequel. The new paperback design includes space for a few short quotations from reviews. I have no dead-tree publications to quote, only authors and book bloggers. What are readers of paperbacks likely to think of quotations from book bloggers? (This may be mostly of academic interest, since no one will see the back cover except those who frequent a couple of local bookstores and those who've already bought or received the book, but still . . . .)

Are there any more 'well-known' book bloggers you could quote? I am thinking on big 6 published books they always put the quotes from other well known authors/publications to show how awesome they are.

On the other hand, I think using quotes that are truthful, not just solicited (so perhaps from reviewers who didn't get a copy of your book in return for a review) would be a more un-biased selection? Not that I'm saying people who get the book in return for a review are biased, but some people may percieve a bias where there is none.

Given I am a book blogger, I really can't answer your question about what readers will think, coz I think it'd be pretty awesome to have a quote from one of my reviews appearing in print somewhere awesome!

Don't worry about whether you gave the reviewer a copy or not--it's standard practice to give free copies to reviewers, authors at all ends of the scales do it. If you quote someone from a blog, just put down their name comma blog name and (as long as it's not too long a quote) you're fine.

As a reader, to be honest I never read these quotes on front or back of books. It wouldn't matter if the quote was from the guy next door or Stephen King, I'm just not interested in what they have to say. I read the blurb and if it sounds like my kind of thing, I read the book. Nobody else will sway me one way or the other!

I agree with chuckles. I don't take the quotes on the back as a sign to read the book. For all I know, it could have come from your neighbor who didn't even read your book. The blurb is what mostly draws me in.
