Here are the books that I've read in the first quarter of 2013. My goal is 52 books so I'm a bit behind, but I have the potential to catch up....
1) Brazil - State of Wonder - State of Wonder The sense of place was a bit lacking and the idea was pretty far-fetched, but it had some evocative images like the women in the tree stand that really stuck with me.
3) Chromosome 6 - Equatorial Guinea - Chromosome 6 I have had the unique pleasure of living in Equatorial Guinea for two years and so I've read most of the books set in there. I found the descriptions of the place to be rather accurate although the idea of cutting edge science being done in Kogo stretches the imagination.
4) Enormous Room - France - The Enormous Room This has been on my TBR pile for a long time. I enjoyed it. Great imagery of a different time in France. Excellent character descriptions.
5) Greece - The Song of Achilles - The Song of Achilles I guess ancient Greece still counts? Good book that makes me realize how little I remember of Greek mythology.
6) Haiti - Island Beneath the Sea - Island Beneath the Sea Amazing. It probably could count for Lousiana as the last section is set in New Orleans. I was wrapped up in the characters.
8) Bel Canto - Peru - Bel Canto Not as much of a sense of the country, but I loved the storyline. Technically, not specifically set in Peru, but I have been wanting to read this so I stretched it to make it fit
9) Turkey - Snow - Snow I read this with another group and a lot of people had issues with the slow pacing and overly developed descriptions of snow. I completely understand where they are coming from, but also really enjoyed the book.
