Here is the interview with Kaitlyn Price that Elizabeth set up, and that some of you asked questions for. Thank you to all of those who gave questions. Now, here are the answers.
Questions about Avenging Amethyst
What inspired you to write this book? Where did you get the idea for the story line in your book? After reading the Vampire Academy series I fell in love with the idea of different "races" of vampires so I created my own but I wanted there to be more than just vampires in it so I could expand the world and work with other mythical creatures.
How long did it take you to write this book? About 3 months to write the first draft and 3 months to edit it completely.
Who is your favourite character in your book? As much as I love my main character Avery, I think I started to like Felix more throughout the whole writing process.
Are there any songs that you think fit this book? If so, what are they? Little Talks by Of Monsters and Men. This song actually inspired the idea of some of the characters in my book going crazy.
How did you get your book published? My book is self-published, which is not hard to do these days. I would've loved for it to be traditionally published, but in a world saturated by vampires, it wasn't very realistic for mine to be traditionally published so I went through Amazon's KDP program and Createspace. Hopefully, sometime in the future, I will get something traditionally published.
Questions about you and your writing
How do you write your plot? In a straight line, or do you go back and forth while writing? I write the whole first draft in a straight line. If I think of things that I would like to add, I write a note of it and worry about adding it in after the first draft is finished. While writing Avenging Amethyst, I actually ended up re-writing the first 20 pages after the first draft was done because it didn't work as well as I hoped it would once the story was all flushed out.
Do you have a routine you do while you’re writing? Not really. I'm not the best at sticking to any kind of writing schedule or routine. I write when I feel like I can and I don't try to force myself to write.
Which writers do you look up to? Lynsay Sands. I have emailed her a few times over the years to ask for advice and encouragement and she has always sent such nice words back. I also follow her on facebook and she just seems like an overall wonderful person.
I also love Kresley Cole. I feel like all of her paranormal books have such interesting stories and I hope someday to have as many books published as she does.
What words of encouragement would you give to young writers? The number one thing that I think most authors will tell aspiring writers is to write. And read a lot. In my opinion, if you don't read as much as you can, you will never learn the craft of writing, and if you don't write, you will never have anything or learn to get better. It really is true that practice will make you better.
Another thing I want to add if study writing craft and grammar. Read as much as you can about how to make your characters and plot better. It really does help. And I truly believe that in order to be a successful author, you have to have basic grammar skills. I know no one is perfect, but I have read plenty of self-published novels that are littered with errors and it really takes away from the book.
Will we be seeing more books by you and will you continue Avenging Amethyst? Yes. I'm working on the second book in the series right now along with another book for a different series. I have TONS of ideas in my head for novels I want to write and now that I've finally completed my first one, I'm going to tackle the others.
