A few colleagues of varying math abilities in Los Angeles are planning on working our way though some Algebraic Geometry in the late spring/summer 2013.
If you're interested in joining us for some self-study with assistance in a small group, we'll be having occasional meetings/discussions/presentations via Skype or Google + hangout, please let us know via comment below.
Those with some experience in linear algebra and proofs (aka, some mathematical sophistication) should be able to keep up. Experience with abstract algebra may certainly be helpful, but isn't required.
It looks like our first online meeting will be this Thursday, 4/25 at 8:35PM (Pacific Time Zone) if you'd like to join. Send me your skype/google+ name to join in (we haven't decided which platform the conversation will be on yet.) We anticipate going over the first 2-3 sections (about 20 pages.)
We're currently planning on using the text Ideals, Varieties, and Algorithms: An Introduction to Computational Algebraic Geometry and Commutative Algebra though we're open to alternate suggestions or you can surely follow along using your own favorite text.
