Alayna-Renee (princessalayna) | 27 comments Hi everyone!!

I'm certain I know some of you, but if I don't, hello!:) I'm Alayna, a long-time blogger and writer who's recently added a weekly feature where each Sunday, I discuss something literary-related. My blog, Jaded Elegance, is a high-traffic personal site that's been around in one form or another since 2000.

Today's blog is, of course, Sunday's "Literary Libations" feature. This week, I'm chatting with author and blogger Anita Lewis about her fluffy, funny, and fabulous family. You'll certainly want to check it out! Just hop on over to Jaded Elegance, and learn more about Anita, while paying a visit to your favourite jadedly elegant redhead!;)

However, this feature has gotten a fabulous response, so if you're an author, blogger, or otherwise verbose and interesting person who'd like to trade interviews or guest posts---or would just like to be profiled--- do contact me!

Cheers,
*~ Alayna

Leigh Boyer (LeighBoyer) | 2 comments Hi Alayna,
I would be interested as well! I am an accomplished financial literacy expert and former Wall Streeter - I just wrote my first fiction novel which is loosely based on my experiences at a major financial institution in the days leading up to the housing crisis - and all the inside drama, back-stabbing, etc that occurred during that time. Here is my book: http://bit.ly/13XwTB0. I'm working to get my personal blog off the ground as well - http://bit.ly/11Cjbm3 Let me know if you would like to trade and how soon! I'm happy to help and jump right in.
Thanks,
Leigh

Alayna-Renee (princessalayna) | 27 comments Hi everyone,

You'll have to forgive my late response. With all that's gone on this week, things have had to take a bit of a backseat for a little while. However, I am here, and finally getting around to drafting replies to everyone!

Bob and Leigh, please drop me a PM so I can speak to each of you individually. Both of your projects are something I could certainly see working well on my site and garnering interest, so let's chat and see what we can work out. :)

Cheers,
*~ Alayna

Alayna-Renee (princessalayna) | 27 comments I've been interviewed by the Savvy Indie, and although I'm not normally the type of person who'd have much to say to a motivational writer and speaker, it all worked out rather well!

Please stop by and press the "Like" button or leave a comment of love and encouragement for little old me...and for all indie authors out there!

Cheers,
*~ Alayna

Alayna-Renee (princessalayna) | 27 comments I've completed my Sunday Literary Libations installation a bit early, since tomorrow will be a busy day. When you're waking up in the morning, make sure to peruse my chat with sci-fi/fantasy author Troy Jackson. We'll both be delighted that you did. :) http://www.jadedelegance.net/2013/04/...

If you're an author who'd be interested in being featured on my weekly segment, please do feel free to get in touch via private message! We may indeed work well together. :)

Cheers,
*~ Alayna

Alayna-Renee (princessalayna) | 27 comments Today's Literary Libations are brought to you by Faith Ann Colburn, who has penned a collection of short stories about a family's struggle for survival and connection, through good times and bad.

She is a magical storyteller, and if you're like me, you've never set foot in Nebraska---so it's a lovely glimpse into another world.

Visit me at Jaded Elegance to hear one of Faith's beautifully crafted stories from the American Midwest. And, of course, a big thank you to Faith Ann Colburn for being my guest this week!

Have a story to tell, and want some humble exposure on a colourful blog? Drop me a private message, and we'll chat!

Scott Wyatt I came across this posting while I am supposed to be preparing for a meeting more appropriately designated under the "day job" category. This sounds fun to view, fun to maybe participate in! I will be "back soon" too look more closely!

Alayna-Renee (princessalayna) | 27 comments OK, we're back to all the "me, me, me" business. Today, my entry is up in Mysti Parker's flash fiction contest.

It's not a voting thing, but reading, commenting, and "liking" are all approved activities. ;) Oh, and there are 13 other great stories not written by me, so you may want to check those out, as well. :)

P.S. Megan, please drop me a private message on here, and we'll chat!! :)

message 20: by Amber (new)

Amber (upulkuchen) | 12 comments I have two blogs that are open for interviews or guest posts-
amberkoneval.wordpress.com is for poetry, publishing news, writing tips and tricks, and the like

thesingingroses.wordpress.com is for how fiction can change our lives, woman's fictions, women's issues, social justice and how it relates to writing etc.

IF you think you would fit into either one of those categories, or could write a guest post relating to either, drop me a line!

I know I owe you an update on the 40 Hour book. Everything's happening so fast I haven't had time to write about it. I'll fill you in soon.

message 23: by Scott (new)

Scott Wyatt I DID come back!

I took a look at the interview of Troy, and also your own interview. This is a very nice forum. Are these email exchange interviews? I didn't see any links to audio/visual tags...

I didn't notice before that you were short of testosterone on this site, but I am a VERY ironic addition. I frequently write in support of women's issues (as well as Native Americans, and also thinking people) but I completely approach it from the wrong direction - using the opposing perspective to make my point. This is evident enough if you take a peek at the "Themes" post regarding my novel. You can find it here: http://scottcwyatt.wordpress.com/2013...

Keep up the good work! I promise to visit regularly. I have become very excited at the prospect of interacting with other writers.

Hi, Rita. Congrats on your new site. I'm in a writing project along with several Australian and New Zealand authors s well as writers from other parts of the world. Could be apropos for your Guest Author page (which by the way when I looked at it didn't have anything on it). Send me a GR message or email me at [email protected] if you're interested.

Travis Hill (angrygames) | 39 comments I'm a nobody that has two short stories and one novella published. I consider myself an LGBT-friendly author (I do not write erotica or romance, mostly sci-fi/horror/adult fiction) because some of my stories have LGBT characters.

I don't use them as a soapbox for any agenda, I just have a lot of LGBT persons in my life so I tend to have them as characters in my work.

I would be interested in talking with anyone and even swapping interviews with like-minded authors.

message 29: by Jerry (new)

Jerry Ash | 40 comments Hi everyone. I have been an author on goodreads for several years, but the books are out-of-print limited-interest business books on knowledge management.

I'm retired now and writing what I want to write — historical fiction. My first work of fiction is "Hellraiser—Mother Jones: An Historical Novel. It will be launched on September 22, 2013.

I will be adding my profile to my page shortly, but briefly I have had an array of titles in my eclectic career from student, journalism professor, editor-publisher of a small mountain weekly newspaper, author of a coffee table book, "West Virginia USA", state senator in West Virginia, vice-president and then president of two hospital associations, executive director of a human organ procurement organization, and expert in the field of knowledge management.

As you can see, I'm a professional writer, although I admit I'm on a learning curve in fiction writing. My book has been professionally edited and a professional book designer has done the cover and layout.

What I need now is lots of guidance on marketing. I've given a lot of marketing advice in my time, but frankly, in that category, I am an example of "those who can do, those who can't teach." I am, however, convinced that my new profession is marketing/sales and I'm pumped to do it because I feel so strongly about the history and lessons to be learned from history contained in this book. Trust me, this is not an ego trip I'm on. I've seen my name in print too many times, sometimes not pleasant!

So, any of you interested in trading help?

message 30: by Rita (last edited Jul 07, 2013 06:05PM) (new)

Rita Chapman | 88 comments Hi Jerry,

I've just seen your comment. Happy to pass on what I have learned - although it's not much. It's very hard promoting and marketing your own book! Often your local bookshops will take a few on consignment. Make sure its in your local library and do some author talks at your libraries. Advertise any discounts i.e. Smashwords on as any sites as you can.

It's helpful to have your own website and you can invite guest authors which will help attract visitors to the site. My website is www.ritaleechapman.com and if you are interested in being a guest author send me a p.m. (private message) telling me where to send the questions.

Make contact with local book clubs and try and interest them in reviewing your book and maybe having you as a guest. There are a lot of book sites where you can blog, although I'm not sure this leads to any sales but you can pick up some handy tips!

Good luck and I'll watch this site to see what other readers are suggesting. Its worth checking out the thread on "What is your most successful marketing technique?" in this group.

Thanks for your knowledge, Rita.

My wife Michele is a professional graphic designer and does editing, layout and design for a vanity press. She is a stickler for detail and has finished with all that today. Tomorrow the book will go to our epublisher for translation to epub and mobi. At the same time our book printer will receive the final layout. Btw, we are not using the vanity press. It's a DIY project for us. By week's end we should have promotional copies ready to share with reviewers and marketers. We have set September 22 for the actual launch date.

Now Michele can move forward with our MOJO (Mother Jones) website and blog. When that's all done I can move forward on your suggestions. I've been reading all sorts of marketing advice online and paying attention to the posts on goodreads. I'm chafing at the bit to get started. But, we believe in staging a project no matter how anxious the author (me) is in getting the book out there.

From the point where it looks like a book, we are pure amateurs with marketing and the online channels. We're groping along there. And so, my friend (and I have requested you be my friend) we are very grateful for all the help we can get.

Thank you isn't enough. So, thank you, thank you, thank you.

A Suggestion: If those who ask for review and interview swaps would simply post the genres they write in, and the genres they blog about, we could get a better idea of where our time is best spent. For example, an interview swap between a writer of romance and a writer of scifi might not produce mus traffic for either, but a swap between a romance writer and an historic fiction writer might be very good for both, depending upon the subjects. Writers need to target their marketing efforts as narrowly as possible to reach potential readers online. there's so much noise out there, it's easy to lose a message.

I just saw this topic for the first time. I've done some guest posts on other people's blogs, and I maintain two blogs myself. One is general writing, the other is my business site, for editing, ghostwriting, etc.

I'm currently doing an interview for someone else's site, and it's a lot of work now that interviews aren't exactly interviews, but the writer herself writing answers to the questions, so I'd rather not do another one for awhile. However, I would love to do a guest post on something literary in exchange for one from you . I've been writing for something like 40 years, and published 5 books. Visit my author page on Goodreads.
