Anny (annyreads) | 6 comments So, I'm about to finish Shades of Earth, and while I actually enjoyed parts of this trilogy (or I would've just quit after the first book), the whole YA love story thing just IS NOT my thing at all. For me, it takes away from the story to have unrealistic, often childish, romantic jazz going on. Especially when it's put in weird places, like "we're on a space ship and stuff is going to HELL and we'll probably all be dead in 5 minutes but why is she talking to that guy when she could be talking to me. (not an actual event in any of the books because I didn't want to risk spoilers, but you know, that sorta thing).

But I do enjoy the whole space thing, space ships and new planets and just generally the whole futuristic sci-fi thing. So I want more of that and less of the YA love triangle stuff.
Does anyone have any recommendations?

Jim Vuksic | 96 comments You might enjoy 'The Inverted World' by British author, Christopher Priest; a post-apcoalyptic novel first published in 1974.

Mr. Priest also wrote "Darkening Island' which was acknowledged as the outstanding British science fiction novel of the year in 1972.
