Just to share with you all, there is this online comic that I like, Basic Instructions, and his creator, Scott Meyer, just wrote a fantasy book called Off to Be the Wizard.
It is an interesting view of a fantasy story in a kind of Matrix universe.

Not available in the UK sadly.
