What do you guys think happened after the end? Do you think Nathaniel died? What do you think happened to Bartimaeus?

Yes Nathaniel died. It was clearly stated in the last but one chapter when Kitty feels so bad that he sacrificed himself and attempts to have government with equal representation of commoners and magicians is made.
Bartimaeus will continue going from one master to another but will have a lot of respect and love for Nathaniel like he did for Ptolemy.

I agree with Rachel. I think Bartimaeus will begin taking on Nathaniel's form when he is summoned--thus embodying both B's and N's spirit in the future.

I think Nathaniel died in this for-human-world, but he might appear in some other worlds. I mean, who knows how many worlds out there. As for Bartimeus, I think he should try to follow Nat's steps, as it appeared to me that he rarely enjoy serving humans (except Ptolemy).

I think Bartimaeus gained the same respect for Nathaniel as he did with Ptolemy... and maybe he'll start including him in his "footnotes" as well. Haha

There is a way how Nathaniel might have escaped - Ptolemys gate. Bartimaeus would ansver his call, it takes short time to do it and no one in human world would know abaut it.

Yes but it requires all the necessary vices used for summoning; pentacles, candles, incense and what not.
So, I think its pretty safe to say that Nats dead.
