Dear Aaron,
I do not know how to do it on the computer, but I have had success with those combination VCR + DVD players that allow one to transfer video tapes to DVD. That might be a way to go and they are not too expensive. Plus it's multi-functional and can be used as a regular VCR and DVD player anyway.
I know there is a way to link one's VHS players, etc. into a computer to do a direct digital copy/transfer (without the highly expensive equipment I've seen in tech magazines), but my expertise does not extend that far.

I would love to find a copy of Adamo's Little Women. PBS telecast the Houston Opera performance in the mid-1990s but I've lost my copy. It's been posted in segments on Youtube, but the picture quality is so compressed and it takes so long to load each segment--I'd love to just get my hands on a copy of the whole thing!

A beautiful clip from "Cendrillon" with Ruth Welting

I also would love to find a copy of the Traviata live from Paris. I missed it when it was on PBS many years ago.

Oh, dear! (Actually there is a way to download and save Youtube videos, but it's a bit tricky...)
Happy hunting!
