Paul | 16 comments While editing info for a volume, I started a new series (Verso Books' Radical Thinkers): https://www.goodreads.com/series/1029...

It's a good-sized series, so I got enthusiastic and added all the other titles published by Verso as part of the series to the new GR series, using the 'Add Book' feature on the series page.

I suppose I ought to have seen this coming, but I now realize that clicking 'Add Book' from the series page adds all editions of the book to the series, including foreign language editions and editions published by other publishers.

Is there any way to remove the series membership designation from individual editions, or is it best to just delete the whole series and forget about it?

Thanks.

- Paul

Cait (tigercait) | 4988 comments If the books were not written to be a part of this series but were collected after the fact by the publisher, that's considered a publisher's imprint, not a series, even though the publisher may refer to it as a series. Goodreads series can't be used for imprints because, as you've noticed, all editions of a book become part of the series.

You should delete the series, but you don't need to forget about it: what you can do is create a listopia list for it instead. Listopia lists are edition-specific.

Paul | 16 comments Oy...I see your point, but for most (but not all) of these books, the Verso Radical Thinkers edition was/is the first and/or only American edition. Moreover, the Radical Thinkers series ID features prominently on those editions of the books. Finally, some of the books were written to be part of the series, while others were indeed collected after initial publication.

On the other hand, these aren't numbered, so I see the argument that it's more properly an imprint rather than a series.

So, considering that it's a messy melange...should I blitz the series anyway? To be clear, not arguing against you, just wanted to be sure you had all the relevant info. Many thanks for your time.

Definitely sounds like an imprint, rather than a series.
