How both Edward and Bella had such a low self-esteem

Both Bella and Edward thought that the other was way better and that they themselves were worth nothing. This annoyed me soo much. Throughout the whole series i was like "get over yourself already!"

I agree with Lynne. Lots of people have low self-esteem, and can see the worth in another person, but not in themselves.

Well, with Edward it's sort of understandable since he's killed before. Also, it's pretty selfish of him to have remained in Bella's life and doom her to become the thing that he hated about himself so much.

I found this quite realistic, because most people out there do have problems with self esteem. With Edward, you do have to remember that, as a vampire, his emotions are going to be even more extreme than usual. And, as Kristen pointed out, having killed quite a number of people (even if they were 'bad' people) would be bound to have an effect on your psyche.

Bella's from a broken home and even though she handles it well, that's going to have an effect on her as well. Also, with her clumsiness, she's probably used to looking the fool in many different situations. So there are reasons why they've probably learnt to look down on themselves.

Interesting...

That is exactly what I mean. I felt that if both Edward and Bella got over themselves, most of their problems would not have come about. But then, I guess that wouldn't have made for a very good book series.

As in "get over yourself and realize that your unimportance is unimportant?"
