Now I'm excited about reading this book. To be honest, I haven't been very interested in reading this series. But now, I think it will be awesome. I've been reading such serious books lately, and this seems like it will be so refreshing.
Some basic info on the book
Main character:
Name: Sophie Mercer
Age: 16
School: Well, she's been to a bunch of different ones, and now I'm pretty sure she's getting kicked out of her current one.
Why she is special: she's a witch (but not one with very accurate spells, it seems).
Other: she's not popular, and her mom just wants her to fit in.
My First Impression
-This will be a lighter read.
-It will be a barrel of laughs.
-I like the first person POV.
-Sophie really shouldn't have cast that spell. It just made the situation worse. It was pretty funny how it turned out, though. :D

I just had to share this.
"It's okay, baby!" he shouted after her. "I don't need eyes to see you! I see you with the eyes of my heart, Felicia! My HEART!"

-Apparently, Sophie is a problem child and is being sent away to Hecate Hall, where witch, shapeshifter, and fae adolescents go when they are in danger of exposing themselves to humans.
-I really like the descriptions that Sophie makes, especially the house.
-She reminds me of Evie from the Paranormalcy series.
-She seems a little shallow.

Here's some of my "feelings" or predictions:
-Archer and Sophie are going to have a hate-then-love romance.
-Jenna will be the awesome sidekick/best friend.
-Mrs. Casnoff may be bad. She has this false vibe to her. I'll be keeping my eye out for her. I'm suspicious of her.
-The second spirit Sophie saw might be one that only she can see. That would make her extra special.
-There's going to be a Queen Bee.
Again, I like the descriptions, and the scenes are quite amusing.

It's sweet that Sophie is so close to her mom. I don't see that a lot in paranormal books. Also, she actually allows herself to cry. That's nice because she isn't so emotionally distant from people and events.
I wonder what happened with Jenna's roommate. Is she still at the school, or did she get hurt? I'm looking forward to finding that out.
I like the pink room. Not that I would decorate my room like that, but still, it's pretty cool.

I'm reading chapter four right now.

-Uh oh. The Dark Witches seem like trouble.
-I had a feeling that Holly was dead. I wonder if Jenna really did kill her or if she was framed for it? Or maybe it was just an accident.
-Now I'm not exactly sure who will be the best friend, and who will be the Queen Bee. (Or maybe there will be two of each?)
I'm just throwing out a bunch of different speculations. I'm bound to be correct some time or another.

-That "scary" show of power by the Trinity was just a little . . . weird. I felt like it was more of a hissy fit that just looked silly. It could've been described in a better way to show that they were being really threatening. Then again, maybe it was just supposed to be silly.
-Now, who killed Holly? I don't think it's Jenna (but I'm not completely closing the door on the possibility that she is faking her innocence, though I doubt that's what is happening).
-I just thought of something! The spirit that Sophie saw must've been Holly.

I've decided to make these two chapters the same post since I don't have much to say on either of them, and I ended up reading chapter 7 without even fully realizing it was a separate one from chapter 6.
-These chapters are mainly used to set things up - like who the teachers are, who Archer is, what the history of the school is.
-it doesn't surprise me that Archer is the school heartthrob, but at least he has the heartbroken side to him.
-I like how there are a number of different forces moving against the Prodigium, and not just one.

-I think both Archer and Sophie are right about humans. Later in the book, Sophie will probably realize that humans are not as trustworthy as she thinks, and Archer will realize that there are humans that will come to the aid of Prodigium. That will probably happen through some sort of big event where they or someone else is in danger.

This cracked me up. I just had to share it.
"Sophia Mercer," Elodie intoned, "we have come to induct you into our sisterhood. Say the five words to begin the ritual."
I blinked at her. "Are you freaking kidding me?"
:D
It is a little weird that they came into her room in the middle of the night holding black candles and asked such a formal question. Elodie can get a little too dramatic.

-There's quite an odd assortment of students at the school.
-I bet Elodie, Chaston, and Anna have something wicked planned.
-I also bet that Sophie's dad is a pretty important guy. He might be bad or might have done something bad to get a reputation.

-It seems like the Defense classes will be the most interesting, so a lot of scenes will take place there.
-The Trinity is acting weird. I wonder if they were genuine in their apology.
-Oh, those awkward situations where the heroine and the love interest are forced together for something. I love those. They are so entertaining.
-I wonder if Sophie compliments the Vandy's tattoos, they will actually work or if they will only make things worse. The Trinity could've been lying about how the Vandy is vain.
-I'm curious as to what the next chapter will bring. What is Skill Nine?

Whoa there.
- First, I was right about my previous guesses. The Trinity tricked Sophie, and the tattoo comment was so not appreciated. Her dad is not necessarily a bad guy, but he is the head of the Council, so many students at Hecate hate him. Quite the bombshell, that tidbit of information is.
-The Vandy is so brutal. And she's bitter. Maybe she should've congratulated Sophie on defending herself well against her attack. Isn't that what the Defense class is for?
-This all sucks for Sophie. There's so many things she doesn't know about the Prodigium.
-It's nice that Archer isn't a complete jerk.
-Hmm. What's cellar duty?

Gosh, these chapters are short.
-It's a good thing that Sophie had her little fit, or else things would've just built up and built up until she exploded.
-This is so random, but I would rather have Sophie's couch than Mrs. Casnoff's.

So Sophie is descended from the most powerful witch recorded? That must make her a powerful witch too, though few characters would suspect that after her spells have gone so far.

I don't have much to say on this chapter. Not many things happened.
-You know how a lot of times, books remind you a little of other ones. Well, some parts in this book (very small things), remind me of the Paranormalcy series, the House of Night series, and even the Harry Potter books. I'm not one of those people who get annoyed when some parts remind remind me of different books. I like it because I can connect a bunch of different books together. :)

-I don't know if I said this already, but I do like Archer. I don't like how he already has a girlfriend, though.
-Uh oh. Chaston is dead now. She died the same way Holly did. I guess now there will be an investigation to find the killer.

-So . . . Chaston didn't die. People are still pointing fingers at Jenna, though.
-Now its been revealed that Elodie and the others might be trying to summon a demon, which is such a bad idea. That plan is going to blow up in everyone's faces and someone's going to get hurt.

-Ouch. Jenna sure has it bad. She's living a life she doesn't want to and everyone fears her.
-Gosh, what a despicable thing, taking Jenna's bloodstone. She didn't deserve that.

-I just know somebody is possessed by a demon. I can Just feel it. But who could it be? Could it be Archer because Sophie saw the flash of green while coming up from the cellar with him? Or maybe it's Elodie (or a member of the Trinity) because she might have summoned the demon? Maybe it's Mrs. Casnoff because it's been said that she would know if a demon has been raised? Then, of course, I can't be completely sure it's not Jenna. And there's also the ghost Sophie keeps seeing. Could she have something to do with this?
-Another option: I could be completely wrong about there being a demon at all.
Gosh, I have so many speculations. I have to be right eventually.

Time for more speculations.
-What's going on with Jenna? Her drawings of Holly and Chaston are a little odd.
-If Archer turns out to be the demon, will Sophie still be interested? And what about Cal? He must be another possible love interest because he's so young and Sophie's conversation with him hinted at interest later on. Will there be a love triangle? Or will one of them turn out not to be a love interest after all.
This book makes me curious. Also, since I'm posting chapter by chapter thoughts, it makes me speculate more about what will happen.

-I have a hunch that something huge is going to happen at the ball. Something bad. And I'm pretty sure Elodie will never get the chance to "give" herself to Archer that night.
-Now I think Jenna just feels sad. There's probably nothing hidden except for the fact that she doesn't like being a vampire and being accused of attacking people.
-What's up with Archer's family? Who are they?
-The ghost in green standing by Sophie's bed when she wakes up? She's a little creepy. She's probably not Holly (darn, because I wanted it to be), but maybe she's one of Sophie's dead relatives (the grandmother or great-grandmother).
-I do like the twist and turns of this story. It's also a pretty quick one. It has short chapters and a lot of dialogue. Plus, it's interesting.

-Ooh. The ghost is her great-grandmother Alice! Now she is expecting Sophie to be the Head of the Council one day? Well, now we know what she's supposed to live up to now.
-The cover of this book makes a whole lot more sense now. The girl at the top is Sophie and the one reflected must be Alice.

-Sophie gets a super powerful grandma as a magic teacher, a pendant that takes away her need feeling of being tired, a pile of pencils conjured out of thin air, and a broom to fly on? She is really lucky.
-There's a cat on the cover of this book. Now where is the cat in the actual story?

-Alice is so conniving. I hope she doesn't corrupt Sophie.
-Elodie really needs to come off of her high horse. I have a feeling that will happen soon.
-Sophie's magic must be different because her ancestry is different.

-I wonder what the bone is going to do to Elodie's dress.
-It's weird how such great power is used to create the perfect wardrobe. Hopefully, Sophie will learn how to use her abilities for something great in the future.

I have new theories . . .
-Maybe nobody is possessed after all. Maybe they're just part of the group that hunts the Prodigium. The same suspects are on the list, though, with the exception of the two other dark witches. I doubt Elodie is it, either. She doesn't seem to be that type. I've ruled out Jenna, too, because signs are pointing away from her.
-Alice is a really bad witch. She causes a ton of trouble.
-Archer . . . I'm still unsure whether he's good or bad. I'll have to read more.

-Elodie and Sophie will probably never become great friends, but I sense a good alliance forming.
-Mrs. Casnoff is so going to regret rejecting the idea that someone has broken past the school's spells.
-Right when the Vandy locked Sophie in the cellar for her duty, I felt uneasy. Because there's only a few chapters left in the book, I am sensing that something bad will happen, and soon.
-I believe an old suspicion is being confirmed. I've always sensed something off about Archer, and now it seems that I was correct. I think he joined the hunting group after Holly died and he tried to get rid of his powers. Now he must a spy of some sort, which is why he was dating Elodie and attending the school again.
-If that is true, then it just opens up the possibility of Cal as a love interest more. Or maybe Archer will still be one and he'll have to become good again?

-Though signs may point Archer out as the bad guy, I'm keeping my mind open to the possibility that he is connected with the Eye (that's the name) through his parents involvement. He may not even be happy with the link to the group.

-Darn. This isn't right. Archer never attacked Sophie and he seemed to be upset that she thought he was out to kill her. I still think there's something off about him, but I don't think he wants to kill anyone.
-This all just really sucks for Elodie. Not only is her recently-ex boyfriend supposedly a killer, but he had moved on so quickly to Sophie after she broke up with him. She deserves to be upset.
I hope to have a few chapters up by the end of today.
