Today is the day! It is the 50th anniversary of the most important - but little known - event of the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s. Fifty years ago today hundreds and hundreds of black kids left school in Birmingham, Alabama (considered the most racist place in the US)to march in protest with Dr. King when their parents were afraid to. This is the event that finally got the nation's and the government's attention to look at the problems of segregation. Remember the picture of the notorious "Bull" Connor turning the fire hoses and dogs on the young demonstrators? That was what became known as The Children's March. MARCH WITH ME, historical fiction, tells what life was like in the segregated south through two protagonists, one black and one white.
