message 2: by Brianna (new)

Brianna | 76 comments This series is amazing. I love the characters of Kate and Curran. It's one of my absolute favorite urban fantasy series, and July 30 can't come fast enough.

message 3: by Sandra, Need more time to Read!! (new)

Sandra | 4736 comments Kate is my fav as well Brianna!!!

I've read them all several times. Not sure why they are my fav; I find them funny, serious, easy to follow without being fluffy, and the interaction between Kate & Curran is fantastic.

The secondary characters are also well drawn and the unique world building of magic & tech coming & going is hilarious.

message 4: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) Kate Daniels is also my favorite UF series. I love Kate and Curran's banter and the various mythologies interwoven into the world building.

I'll be listening to Magic Slays (Kate Daniels, #5) by Ilona Andrews and I can't wait to see what happens now that Kate and Curran are officially together.

message 5: by Alisa (new)

Alisa This is one of my all time favorites also. I enjoy everything about this series. I like the world Kate lives in and all the creatures, mythologies, etc. I love the banter between Kate & Curran. The secondary characters are all enjoyable. I enjoyed reading about Raphael and Andrea and I'm hoping Derrick gets his own book one day. In most series I find a book or two that I didn't like that much but this is a series where each book is equally good, imo.

message 6: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments What really drew me to their books is the world. I am a huge fan of world building and the whole magic vs tech thing is awesome.

I also really like Kate she is quite the funny character. On one hand crazy psychotic chick on the other she has such a big heart. Curran to is awesome and I love it when he is wrong but acts like he is right.

The other cool thing about this books is their are consequences and it is not magically over. I think this is also true for the Edge series as well.

Maria Schneider (bearmountainbooks) | 50 comments Awesome reads!

message 8: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ I love this series. I will say for me book 1 in any new series is slower going as you are getting to know this new world. That being said I couldn't get to book 2-5 fast enough, lol
Kate always cracks me up and her & Andrea together are always a treat. Love the tough chick with a big heart. Oh the banter between Curran and Kate - love it!! Loved the pranks they played on each other. All the secondary characters add to the series as well.
Hmmm - I think I may need to re-read these soon. Maybe before the new one is out this summer....

message 9: by Mike (new)

Mike | 353 comments I love the concept of magic and tech ebbing and flowing against each other. I also like Kate and Curran's relationship much the same way I like Mercy and Adam. They said yesterday that there will be a total of ten books in this series.

message 10: by Karen (new)

Karen (tngal) | 8 comments I think Kate and Curran are my all time favorite couple. Ilona and Gordon are my favorite authors too. I've never read anything they've written I didn't like, even if I didn't like what the character did, I understood it or thought it was well thought out as an action.

I'm going to re-read the series before the July 30th release too.

message 11: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Carpenter (lacarp) | 8 comments I have sn unhealthy passion for Ilona Andrews... Especially for the Kate Daniels series. Every time I want to write a blog post on my website about a book I have to talk myself out of writing about one their books. I have also read their books at least 3 times.... Magic Strikes I think maybe 5 or 6 times. They so creative, clever, and utterly hilarious. the action is great too.

I know that feeling. I have not picked up a book by them in about nine months on purpose. It is like I read one book and then I reread the whole series. Pathetic I think lol nice to know I am not quite alone **grins**

message 13: by Sandra, Need more time to Read!! (new)

Sandra | 4736 comments Me too! Exactly, if I pick up one, I read the lot.

message 14: by Rhonda (new)

Rhonda Hainer | 7 comments I love this author. The Kate Daniels series is one of my favorites.

message 16: by Debbie (new)

Debbie | 3 comments One of the things that I love about the Kate Daniels series is how she has grown over the course of the books. Spoler alert - I will be mentioning actions from all of the books.

She starts out an almost alcoholic loner, and over the course of the series acquires friends, family, finds love and gets a dog. It was also organic how her relationship with Curran grew. They didn't fall in love with each other at the end of the first book, but got to know each other over the course of several books. I also love the secondary characters, and enjoyed finding out more about Andrea in Gunmetal Magic. Kate acts like they are so different, but they are both wounded from childhood trauma and both survived because of sacrifices on the part of their mothers. One of the things that makes the books so interesting is how naturally things happen. Her acquisition of Grendel, adopting Julie, becoming Consort. However, with the introduction of each new secondary character, I want to know more about them, especially Derek and Barrabas. I even find Saiman fascinating.

message 17: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) I agree with everything you mention, Debbie... except maybe Saimon. He kind of gives me the creeps sometimes.

message 18: by Sue (new)

Sue (sueshelly) | 24 comments I have a question / comment about the very end of Magic Slays. This may be a spoiler but since I can't find the code anymore for how to hide it, consider yourself warned.....
After Kate wakes up after the Arez ritual, Curran said to her "If you think that I will ever let you pull that f**-up s**t again, then this thing between you and me is done. We are f**ing done." Now I know he was stressed and scared, etc. but isn't it interesting how MEAN his reaction was compared to Kate's reaction when he woke up after almost going loup at the end of Magic Bleeds. Almost mirror circumstances but he tells her he will leave her!!! Bless her, it doesn't seem to phase her, but I think it would have shattered me. Anyone else feel this way?

message 19: by Sandra, Need more time to Read!! (new)

Sandra | 4736 comments I guess Kate understood his reaction because she'd already been through it.

As to the spoiler html, you can find it above every comment box in the link (some html is ok). Just copy and paste it Sue, no need to remember it.

message 20: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) hmmm...I guess it didn't come across as mean to me but more an intense emotional reaction. We all say angry things when we are scared witless and Curran is no exception. I have absolutely no doubt that he would never leave Kate - the man's besotted!

message 21: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments Curran is frequently loud and wrong ...perhaps that is part of his charm...lol no really this is what I like about the series though Curran is used to things going his way and the way he wants it to go. Kate almost never does what he wants and as such he tends to be aggressive.

The first time he was wrong in Magic Bites I recall being super annoyed. Now I see it as that is just Curran.

message 22: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments I am itching to read the first chapter of Magic Rises (Kate Daniels #6) by Ilona Andrews

it is hard to be strong :-(

Spoiler html is really easy. put the word spoiler in between the greater and less than signs. Then to end it encase /spoiler in between a less than and greater than sign. The result is:

He is just a really possesive mean Beast. He would die w/out Kate. He loves her something fierce, so his reactions are something fierce.
