The 1700-1939 Book Club! discussion

This is for the discussion of The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton.

I will break the book up later today after I check out the number of pages and chapters.

Hey all! This is the book I nominated for this month. I am so happy it was picked! I'm really excited to see what everyone has to say about it, but I will not be able to lead the pack. I am on a month long trek across Ireland so my time will be limited as far as connection to internet goes. However, I will be reading the book and I will post when I can!

I read this book three years ago and enjoyed it very much.

I just started it and can't wait to join in the discussion.

Admittedly I am not very far along yet, but I will have some time to dedicate to reading in the days to come. I'm going to keep this a tad short, but I just wanted to say I love the descriptions she has for the characters in this novel. Even though they are part of New York aristocracy and I find big spending to be getting something that's not on the dollar menu from McDonald's, I can still easily picture them and relate her characters to people I know quite easily. For me, Wharton does a great job connecting with the reader and I have really enjoyed what I have read so far!

I think it is interesting that the main character is a male character commenting on and criticizing gender roles. It is an interesting contrast with how she did House of Mirth.
