Thank you for allowing me to become a member. My name is Stan and I live in the west coast of Scotland. You are likely to find me with book or paintbrush in hand, unless I am running through the countryside.
I tend to read non-fiction although not exclusively, but definitely have a bias in that direction. A fair bit of historical "fact" you could just not make up. I enjoy considering the same subject from different perspectives and have many books on, for example, Britain's civil wars. Looking forward to broadening my reading.

My name is Barbara & although I have no formal background relating to history, it has always been a primary interest of mine. My father was a veteran of WWII and I grew up during the Vietnam & Civil Rights era, so I have read many histories & biographies pertaining to those areas.
Since I have retired, I have been able to travel to many of the Civil War battlefields, followed portions of the Lewis & Clark trail, & visited many of our national parks. I always end up purchasing books relating to the place I am visiting & learning as much as possible about the people who lived in that time & place.
This is the first book group I have joined. I am looking forward to seeing more recommendations & have all ready found 2 of the 3 books that are being read now. I'm also looking forward to reading comments by others & hoping to contribute my own opinions.

Hi Everyone,

My name is Ben, and I'm a student entering my last semester as a Poli Sci/German major in Illinois. I've always loved learning about history, and have been an avid reader ever since I first picked up a book. I primarily enjoy military history, especially the two World Wars, but I love reading almost anything which can fall under the 'history' heading. This usually includes cultural and national history, medieval, and more modern history from the past two centuries, but I love branching out and learning new things. I'm looking forward to finding new reads and broadening my horizons through the challenges and group reads/discussions in this group. I also hope, that through my reading, I can also provide you all with some new ideas for books, and help to introduce someone to a part of history they never before considered.

Greetings. I’m Helen, a graduate teaching assistant in Atlanta working on my dissertation for my PhD in history. In terms of research, I’m most interested in late 19th to early 20th century Spain. As my faculty committee members can attest, I get swept away by other times and places fairly easily. I recently finished quite a bit of reading for my comprehensive exams. Of that, I most enjoyed popular beliefs and practices of the early modern period in Europe, as well as knowledge in Islamic Al-Andalus in medieval Spain. I teach the World since 1500 survey though a history of science and technology lens. I’m pleased to join the good company of this group!

Hello! My name is Erica. I am a US Army officer, currently at FT. Lee, VA. I have a MA in international relations and usually read non-fiction (although I do love good fiction as well), with a particular interest in military history. Hello fellow history aficionados. I am happy to be part of the group and am glad for the opportunity to introduce myself.

I am currently a journalist and I am also a retired political science professor (25 years at Kent State University in Ohio). I taught many sections of the history of Western political thought and always tried to let students know that the past is part of the present and the future.

I have an BA. MA and Ph.D. in political science (the latter two at the University of Wisconsin-Madison) and minored in history all during my grad school because of how fascinated I became with it as an undergrad at Ohio State.
