Lovelle (bugiswonderland) | 1 comments Hello everyone, I’m Lovelle… I owed my interest in History to my teacher in High School. Because of him, over half of the books I own are history-related. Mostly about World War II & Holocaust, Politics, International and Cultural Studies, Memoir or Biography. Thanks for letting me join your group and I look forward to seeing great book suggestions from all of you.

Deborah Pickstone | 1 comments Hello, I am Deborah. I am in New Zealand, though English by trade....I firmly believe that we should look to history to teach us about our decisions today and in the future - there is nothing new under the sun! Also - who would not be fascinated by social history and the gossipy nature of many of the memoirs that survive for us? I am more fascinated by older and Ancient history than modern - I guess because it demands more of my imagination to apprehend what it would have been like to live it. Luckily, Auckland Libraries are not at all bad, so I can order lots of interesting books - NZ is often a bit of a poor relation in terms of facilities.

Anyway, greetings, one and all *takes bow and sits down hurriedly*

My name is Elin and I currently live in the mountains of western Pennsylvania. I studied history as an undergrad and I'm currently working on my master's in library science. (Fingers crossed, I graduate this summer!)

Although I prefer American history, specifically local to me history and that of the American west, I can read just about anything. Currently I'm reading a lot of children's literature as I have a class on the genre. But even most of those that I'm finding are historical in nature.

I look forward to communicating with you all and great book recommendations!

Zachariah Thank you for the warm welcome Kathy, Teri, Bryan, and Jill.

Thanks to José Luís Pinto as well. I greatly appreciate the link you provided to the folder on Latin American History. As I haven't used this site much for anything else but keeping up with books read, I find the layout a little cantankerous so the link is certainly helpful. And the "to read" list grows ever longer...

Unfortunately my studies are dictating what I read at the moment (not that I'm complaining, I chose this after all) so partaking in any group selection/discussion will likely be impossible until the end of the semester. Good to be here, nonetheless.

Cheers!

I've been interested in history for as long as I can remember but I've recently rediscovered my love for history when I stumbled onto Allan Eckert's 'Winning of America' series and David Talbot's 'Brothers' about the Kennedy Years. I just think that there is so much that we can learn from studying history to not only avoid repeating it, but to better understand the world around us. You can't determine where you want to go unless you first know where you are coming from. Anyway, I'm hoping that I can expand my history reading list and engage in some discussions, so that's why I joined this group. I'm really looking forward to being part of it.

Krissy welcome but we do not allow self promotion.

Here is your post minus the self promoting segments:

Hi! I'm Krissy and obviously, I'm new. ;) I m from the UK but I'm currently travelling from Barcelona and the Philippines to study and be with my dad at the same time. I'm a law student and history facinates me. I've tried being a history major but my guts told me that I should walk towards law school because that's what I've always wanted. I love Europen History! Ancient Greece facinates me. And also, the English & British History where the stories of kings, queens, prince and princesses are always amazing! And also, the Spanish history and how they ruled some of the countries esp the Philippines for more than a hundred years. I love history as much as I love.my tea, my dog and my books. ;) ....

Adrian Dean | 2 comments Hi, I'm Adrian from the U.K. Confession time - I have never been a great reader, mostly something I do while on holiday (that's a 'vacation' for those of you on the other side of the Pond), but I have recently decided I need to do more, a) because it is very relaxing (I have quite a stressful job in IT) and b) I like to learn things & educate myself, which is why I chose to join this group because I like things that are factual. I have read some fiction but that's not my preference. In terms of history I am quite interested in World War 2 and being British I'm also interested in the history of Britain, which of course we are very fortunate to have a lot of.
