Eileen | 255 comments Hello, my name is Eileen and I just joined Goodreads and this group. I have lived in Tampa, FL for 20 years after growing up in Mpls. During the day I work at our law office and in my free time I enjoy reading among many other interests. Although I like fiction, I often gravitate to substantive non-fiction, including history. I look forward to being part of the group.

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) Welcome Arianna....it is good to have another member from Italy. Since you are trying to expand your general knowledge of history, why not start with our Home Page and find some topics that will be of interest to you.

Home Page

There are many other folders where you can discuss topics that interest you.

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. (There is a link on the top right of the comment box). It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them.

When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

This is how books that you mention should look:

Thomas Jefferson The Art of Power by Jon Meacham by Jon Meacham Jon Meacham

Eileen | 255 comments Jill, thanks for your message. I am interested in many fields of history and will definitely continue exploring the home page of topics. Will the topic of "France" be unlocked and expanded? I spent many years studying the language and country so that first caught my eye. Thanks again!

Ty Hello everyone, I'm Ty and I live in Washington DC. I have a background in economics and international affairs and find history not only fascinating in its own right, but also to be key in formulating good macro-policy within my fields. I have a particular interest in African and Middle Eastern history and have absolutely fallen in love with the diversity of these two regions. I look forward to meeting everyone and to learning from and conversing with you.

Bernice | 1 comments Hi everyone! My name is Bernice and I am from South Africa. I have discovered a love and appreciation for history the last couple of years, and it's basically been the only genre I have been focusing on lately. I am particulary interested in WWI and WWII and European history. I have joined this group because I want to know immediately if there is a great new book recommended by members in this particular genre I love so much. There are so many good books out there and there is so little precious time that I need all the help and recommendations I can get.

Terri | 0 comments My name is Terri. I am an artist and professional genealogist. I am mostly interested in American History.I am fascinated by the Civil war as well as the history of Salem. I had family ancestors that died from the 1918 epidemic so I have quite a library of books of that subject. I am researching my family line which included the Jewish immigration to America.

Chloe Helton | 1 comments I'm Chloe. I study history independently, especially Ancient Rome and the American Civil War, although I do tend to go through periods in phases and those just happen to be my most recent ones. Ask me anything about Elizabeth I, Joan of Arc, Agrippina the Younger (the crazy empress who poisoned Claudius with mushrooms, or so they said), or female Civil War spies. My favorite authors are Kate Quinn (her Rome series, mostly) and Michelle Moran (except her most recent two books, which I've felt are not on par. I hope she steps her game back up, because man did she have it). Currently reading Revolutionary and the diary of Sarah Emma Edmonds, which isn't fiction but reads like it.

Rebecca Bogart | 2 comments Hi I'm Rebecca. I love learning about history because it is truly stranger than fiction. I love understanding more about how things have come to be the way they are. I also am very annoyed by movies that edit or spiff up history.

Have enjoyed reading Barbara Tuchman, also Dorothy Dunnett House of Niccolo series.

My name is Kevin and I am a history major with a minor in political science pursuing an undergrad degree in NY. I hope to go on to get a masters and a Ph.D in history somewhere else. My interests include American history and European history, specifically modern German history. I have a large collection of books about World War II Germany.

I just like learning about history for fun, and I get curious about a lot of random things. Lately I have been really interested in Imperial Russia and have read a couple books centered around that. However, my main interests generally tend to run along ancient cultures such as ancient Greece, Rome, and Egypt. I have also dabbled a little bit into Plantagenet and Tudor history.

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) Hello from one Jill to another!! We are glad to welcome you to the place for the history lover. In order to expand your experience, let me suggest that you visit our Home Page and find the topics that are of interest to you.

Jazmin A | 1 comments Hi everyone,

I'm Jazmin. I'm a 24 year old book worm from California.

I majored in Global Studies in college and studied abroad in Bordeaux, France. I speak French and Spanish proficiently.

I love medieval and renaissance history particularly French and Spanish monarchy history. I fell in love with history naturally through historical fiction at the tender age of 7 and have been in love ever since.

Since I have a particular niche in the genre, I've already read most well-known books in historical fiction of those time periods, but I am not branching out to non-fiction and in different eras. I most recently enjoyed Nicholas and Alexandra by Robert K. Massie by Robert Massie.

I've just picked up The Year 1000 What Life Was Like at the Turn of the First Millennium by Robert Lacey by Robert Lacy from my local library.

I would love to find discussions on those books as well as recommendations on similar books of any time period, though I strongly prefer French/Spanish medieval/renaissance.

Thanks for the welcome!
Jazmin

Scott | 1 comments My name is Scott. I am a lawyer and I live in Little Rock, AR USA. My interests are wide and varied. I enjoy The American Revolution, Civil War politics but not so much Civil War battles, and Roman history. I also enjoy 19th Century literature with a real love of Anthony Trollope, Victor Hugo, and Dumas.
